My name is Sandra and have just recently begun to eliminate fructose from my diet.  I am lactose intolerant and have been for some time but really never followed a lactose free diet as I had adjusted my diet a long time ago which minimised the impact.  I was diagnosed as highly likely suffering irritable bowel syndrome.

During my last holidays about 4-6 weeks ago, I noticed a change in me which I put down to lactose overload.  Not uncommon.  However, after a period of 'behaving myself' little had changed so I did some further research to update my knowledge.  I was interested to find that a substantial number of people who are LI are often gluten intolerant and/or fructose malabsorbers.  Even more interesting is over many years I had gradually stopped eating certain foods because they didn't agree with me - the common link being high in fructose.  Whether I am a fructose malabsorber, I don't know.  My decision to cut this out is in the hope I feel better (combined with eliminating lactose) and, after reading the side effects of this sugar, having a healthy life.  My biggest obstacle has been creating interesting foods for myself.  Thanks for the recipes.  I still don't enjoy my cuppa with sugar, but it won't affect my decision.  I am 2 weeks in and continuing on.

Hi Sandra welcome to the sugar free lifestyle, if you want ideas for meals you could try Marks daily apple site its based on the primal blueprint, no grains or sugar, I have looked into it but am really reluctant to cut out the grains yet, there is a few other post around here on it.

    Hi All,

I have stopped fructose for 2 months. In this short time I have seen a huge difference, I'm not bloated, don't need my Nanna naps & my tummy is shrinking YIPEE.
I have tried every thing, gluten free, wheat free & 3 day detox on juices & also doing 6 months training for a marathon & 60 days of Hot yoga. This is the only thing to date, that has made me feel great in my body. I feel extremely grateful for David Gillespie books. To be honest I thought it would not work, I have tried everything so i thought I will do a personal experiment....."for me it has been wonderful!

I do have one Question? I do love doing marathons, what would you suggest for food intake before & during endurance exercise??? That is fructose free.

    THANK YOU Carrie

I have a friend who is involved in Dragon-boat Racing. The crews eat a number of glucose tablets before a race in order to provide a surge of energy for the race.  They are readily available and cheap . . . .  any chemist shop and several supermarkets. About $3 for 20.

Just started out today. I really should lose 25kg to improve my health - hypertension, sleep apnoea, thyroid. I have been thinking about it for a while now and toyed with the idea of going back to
Weight Watchers, but I am really fearful of failing yet again. I have been aware of David's work for some time now and  I must have seen it mentioned somewhere recently so was inspired to google search the topic. Everything I read seemed to make sense, particularly the 60mins report by Peter Fitzimons - he is a straight talker and commands respect. I also watched David's Sunrise interviews and his calm manner and well researched ideas made real sense to me. I thought I was  quite knowledgeable on health and nutrition matters, but  my mind is full of information and misinformation - I now no longer know what to believe, especially the rubbish put out by the food industry. So....time to give sugar the flick and hopefully change my life for the better.

Thought it was time to log back on and see how people are doing.  I am still relatively fructose free and lactose free.  Took a while to source glucose powder to supplement sucrose - the disadvantage of living in a small town.  Thank goodness for our local health food shop.  Occassionly I fall off the bandwagon but I don't see this as a failure, but as a reminder of my decision.  The effects of fructose overload is quite unpleasant.

I read with interest the available recipes, but they too pose a small problem at times.  Some require cream which I cannot consume.  Not sure even if lactose free cream is available.  It would be nice to find some recipes that cater for both.  Still looking for them.

Never mind about the cream.  Just found the Liddells site.

    Hi Sandra,

I believe no dairy is a bit of a grey area for Paleo. Some don't have it and some do. Here's a few web sites I found useful for Peloe recipes and theres lots of cook books you can get now. Just check out first which have dairy in them :)

Primal Blueprint (http://primalblueprint.com/) also has lot of info and recipes but I know they do use dairy. Good luck!

    Sam :)

Hi Sandra - I'm a newbie too - began my sugar free journey last Sunday (only 6 days ago!). My stats - 41 years, 165cm tall, starting weight: 69.8kg, today's weight - 67.1kg. I have been most astonished to see that I have already lost 2.7 kilos!  I was amazed because to be honest I havent really felt lighter (still very bloaty around the tummy) and I'm suffering from a few minor withdrawals - small headaches and bloaty.
My goal is to feel healthier, fresher, more altert, more energetic and (hopefully) to lose 10 kilos in total, eventaully.
I feel quite full all the time atm - I guess due to the food types I've eaten during the last week, ie: eggs, avocado, cheese, full cream milk on my vita brits and full cream milk in my coffee. I don't eat as  much as I used to, however, as I haven't really been hungry since Monday!
Really looking forward to feeling less bloated, for the withdrawal symptoms to go and to generally feeling great and being slimmer (anyone else feel bloated around the tummy in the first week?)
I wish you well on your journey, Sandra.

    Carrie,

I have a friend who is into Dragon-boat racing. He & his crews chomp down a lot of glucose tablets for extra energy before a race. You can buy them for about $3 ofr 30 at the chemist's.  May be worth a try.
