    Shirley,
A good reference book is Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat" - on page 197 he states: High uric acid levels cause gout, which is associated with obesity and diabetes.." Previous to that statement, he was describing how insulin "works" on the fat cells and liver to convert carbohydrate to fat (triglycerides). If your husband were to go Low Carb High Fat, he would have a better chance of beating the gout. Look for a doctor who is sympathetic to LCHF, and I also recommend the above book . :)

Thank you so much for your help.  During the past week my partner has been sugar-free and fat and dairy-free and thought that he would shed weight really quickly but has put on 1 kg and 1 in round his waist.  There is no answer for it other than his body thinks he is now in starving mode and storing all the food he eats.  He is now going to eat fat again  and cut down the carbs.

    Hi Shirley
Gout has different triggers for everyone i think, for  my Dad it's too much seafood an oranges , so while he still eats these food he does so in moderation. But as John says goggle an check. Well done on your sugar free weight loss life style too..
