Hi All,  I had a query. Sorry if I in the wrong part of the forum. But what I wanted to know is if  there is a danger in reintroducing fructose free goodies into our diets.  For example if I make fructose free icecream  , it is still pretty sweet and has a lot of cream etc. in.  If I start eating things like this I'm worried that could put me  back to square one.  Does anybody have suggestions or experiences to share on when and how much to use these types of foods.  Thanks Karen

Good question! ... Everything you eat (besides fat) is eventually converted to glucose anyway.  By eating glucose flavoured deserts you are simply transfering some of the glucose from the main meal to the desert.  If you appetite control is working then you will have to eat less of everything else if you want to have any hope of fitting a dessert in.  Once you are fructose free, you won't gain weight by eating desert but you will eat less of everything else.  You will find that you have allow for dessert by having a smaller main meal or else you will feel unpleasantly overfull.

Its already a good sign that you think a glucose ice-cream is sweet (ask a person who is still addicted to sugar what they think of your ice-cream - they'll think you're nuts).  The other thing you will notice is that it is not addictive.  Sure you'll have some, but it wont leave you wanting more.  When you're full, you'll stop.

Lizzie and I tend to have dessert once or twice a week (using glucose ice-cream often combined with a glucose based cake (recipes coming soon).

    Cheers

    David.

    Thanks David,

That makes sense and I can manage that. From your reply I also realised that I have to be careful with terminology as well.  I won't use the term fructose free anymore, because  a lot of those types of food still have fructose which I have to be aware of.

Also heard that they were singing your praises in parliament last night.  Congratulations.
