    Hi David and members,

I am exactly 4 weeks into sugar elimination lifestyle. My partner Mike is also doing it. I would like to document here, how it is going, and then maybe update in another 4 week's time and so on.

I began at 90kg, constantly tired, spasmodic depression, increasingly forgetful and stressed and very very unfit.

I went cold turkey, excluding one piece of fruit/day, and had withdrawn in 3 days. This truly amazed me, especially when I read how withdrawal can take women quite a bit longer. The habit of reaching for something was something I had to remind myself not to do, like smokers must do at break time, but I did not actually desire sugar after 3 days.

    Outcomes so far:

    • Immediately my stomach began to shrink - almost literally. So much so that I checked the scales daily wondering where the flab was going. My weight went up and down to begin with and then began to drop. I am 3.5 kg lighter today, and have dropped from a size 18 to a snug size 16
    • I feel ridiculously light and clear headed
    • I sleep better and for less, waking earlier and wanting to get up
    • I have not had one depressive day which is a liberating feeling
    • I don't crave sugar, including fruit. I have an orange or some strawberries every couple of days
    • I cannot overeat, my appetite control is fully restored
    • I eat much less overall
    • I don't feel deprived or restricted because I can still have 'bad' things which I realise in small amounts are not completely evil, eg. hot chips at the football etc
    • My left big toe, which may be a bunion and usually aches a lot, no longer aches much
    • My energy levels are even throughout the day
If someone had told me all of this would have occurred from 4 weeks without sugar I would have been very skeptical.
I have really enjoyed reading a number of books about sugar and am very sure that this is finally the solution to a number of my health issues and potential health problems. When my GP praised your books and agreed with the anti-sugar approach I was even more assured.
I am really looking forward to checking back in after another 4 weeks. Life is good.
    Thank you,
    Pam

Well, it's now 8 weeks since I quit sugar and the news continues to be all GOOD!

I am 5 kgs lighter, 1 1/2 dress sizes smaller, retaining improved skin tone, feeling positive and sleeping well.

I am still amazed about how sane my appetite control has become. I never feel hungry or have cravings. I eat eggs, toast, avocado, bacon, butter, coffee for breakfast and snack lightly during the day when I am working or have a small lunch on weekends. My snacks are generally nuts, raw veggies, occasionally an orange or mandarin and some crackers and cheese. At night we have a meal using as few sugar containing foods as possible. I have started using a slow cooker that was given to us a few years ago and have cooked some desserts from recipes on this site and from Sarah Wilson. I personally don't crave a dessert at all but my partner and daughter do. My servings are small as I just can't eat as much as before. I could not tolerate instant coffee without sugar even when topping up with extra milk, so we splashed out and bought a coffee machine. Loving the fun of being baristas (!) and more importantly loving the coffee. It actually tastes sweet.

It has been great fun to clear out the pantry, sort and re-label new products. I have retained some sugar and dried fruit but put all of this gear on the bottom shelf. Have also started to pull out the boxes of Size 14 and 12 clothes from under our bed which I never thought I could consider fitting into again.

    Happy Days!

12 weeks down and all continues to be simple and easy. 7 kg lighter since I began = slow and steady weight loss without any hunger pains and deprivation. I continue to have really positive mental health despite work pressures and a major family bereavement. I have enjoyed exploring lots of sugar free recipes with my slow cooker which has been great fun. I continue to develop a renewed love for food and ingredients and cooking. I am renovating our pantry and looking forward to 4 months off work on leave to really get stuck into cooking sugar free snacks and desserts for my family and home made sauces etc. I am also looking forward to time to exercise properly during my leave and lose some more weight ready for summer on the beach. Sugar free days are happy days!!!
