    Hi

Just wanted to share my story to encourage those who are feeling a little down heartened. I started to go sugar free at the end of June after coming back from a holiday overseas. It has taken a while for me to see any weight loss but decided it was a better way of life so didn't worry about the weight and concentrated on just what I was eating. I am now 2 months in and starting to see the results on the scales. I loved reading the book Eat Real Food and make batches of Anzacs for the snack I have with my cuppa.

Stay strong and you will get there in the end. For those asking about post menopausal women I am in my early sixties.

Good on you Lily. It's great to hear very positive stories in place of the usual "problem" posts.

Thanks John. I am so excited as this is the first time I feel I can stick to my new life style. I have tried diets in the past but could never sustain them. I look forward to my yearly routine blood test in October and I am sure there will be significant changes in some of them. I am also starting to adapt some of my favourite recipes using dextrose instead of sugar and of course I am sooo excited about getting on the scales and seeing them move in the right direction.

    Hi Lily

I've just joined this site and was interested in reading your post (from some months back) about it taking a while for the weight to drop off.  I am 65 and about 2 kilos above the upper 'healthy weight' limit for my height, but ideally would love to lose around 8 kilos or so to get me back to a slimmer, fit into my clothes with comfort, sort of feeling! I have been following the eating plan in David's books for 2 weeks....but so far no shift in my weight  -  neither up or down.  Hopefully in another few weeks it may start to happen.  I have made his TV chocolate slice....but have only eaten a few pieces with the rest tucked away in the freezer... and am really enjoying my home made bread with butter (only 2 slices per day mostly).

I must admit I haven't really felt hungry or deprived, but a shift in the weight would be great.  I had a disappointment earlier today (nothing to do with my new eating plan)...and my husband while out grocery shopping brought me home a Kit Kat chocolate bar and proudly gave it to me in the hope it would cheer me up!  Clearly he hasn't noticed that I've had my head stuck in 3 of David's books over the past 2 weeks and have eaten nothing with fructose in it.  The Kit Kat has been poked at the back of the fridge and will be consumed by my 2 strapping grandsons tomorrow I expect!

Maybe you need a new husband  :-)  Just joking!

The two criteria that matter, to my way of thinking, are that you feel full at the end of each meal ( aka your appetite-control system is working) and that your weight is under control.

The fact that it is not decreasing as fast as you like is not so important. But you could check the other "measures" like waist to hip ratio which should be no more than 1.0 for men and 0.8 (?) for women; also your actual waist should be no more than 94cm for men and 80 cm for women. What is your BMI? [weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared. Anything under 25 is OK Under 20 is skinny and over 30 is obese. If weight loss is not working for you, check you "ideal" weight - you may already be there. Or go low-carb for a few weeks.

Good luck, and DON'T give up!

    Hi there

It took a long time for me to see a lot of change on the scales. I did find benefits in other ways like no more heartburn and generally feeling better within my self. I have been a bit slack since Xmas but looking forward to getting back on track now. I also have an under active thyroid which although is controlled by medication I often think slows down my weight loss. Good luck and keep on giving it your best shot

I'm often surprised how quickly you can add a few kilos - e.g. on a cruise! But if you are careful for a few days [say up to a week] after the "binge" your weight will return to normal.
