Hi I have been sugar free for 2 weeks now and am really enjoying it, I had got to the point were nothing was working for me anymore did the low carb for 2 years lost the 5 kg about 3 times in the 2 years an would put it all back on again as soon as holidays or events happened. At my heaviest and with my Dr having a go about high cholesterol an getting the weight down, I bought sweet poison, and went cold turkey. I haven't experienced any sugar cravings since starting and my weight has gone down a kilo but I'm taking the weight loss as it comes an not stressing about how slow or fast it happens. My sugar withdrawals started on day 5 and lasted for 3 days mainly headachy an a dash to the loo in the mornings, and there was a couple of grumpy mornings. But all is good now an this feels like a no diet way of life, after many years of having to say the D word.

Just eat whatever  and whenever you want to . . . as long as it doesn't contain any fructose :-)
That may well mean that you have to become an avid label reader as there is a lot of "hidden" sugar in processed foods. And "no added sugar" or "sugar free" can be a trap too, as there are often artificial sweeteners in the mix which are very bad for you.

Hi Cheryl hope all is going well for you, an thanks John for the advise, it's a lot easier than I thought with the labels but the oil thing makes it a lot harder choosing alternatives. I haven't gone down the cooking with glucose road yet I really don't want to start subsituting sweet things till I have a good handle on not eating sweet stuff.

Well its 4 weeks down now, and still no sugar cravings, I haven't lost any more weight, but I am not putting any on either so thats a plus and I'm really enjoying eating non diet food. I am definitely eating less so maybe the weight loss will come eventually. I still haven't done any baking, but thats mainly cos I can't find any dextrose.
    Cheers Deb

If you go to the Dukan Diet site, they have a free "ideal weight" calculator.   http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/   Perhaps you are already at your ideal weight.

Incidentally, ladies should aim for a waist measurement of 80cm max; 94 for men. Regardless of height or weight. A lot of fat around your vital organs is VERY BAD for you :-(

    Hi John
Have already done the Durkan thing, I'm not at my ideal weight but only 3kg off it or 5kg if I dream big, an yes there is definitely a few centimetres to go on my waist measurement. I'm not exercising as yet but will get back into it soon, I just came to a huge big stop trying to lose weight an exercising, couldn't get motivated to do anything. A blood test( I have High Cholesterol) an the doc telling me I needed to get the weight off, if I want to stay pill free. Left me wondering what to try next when I came across the sweet poison book I also got the other 2 books and it all made sense. So no more low carb or low fat, which is why I'm not stressing about the weight loss it will happen if its meant too, an I feel 100% better since giving up sugar.

Dextrose is in the home brew section of Woolies: "Brigalow" is the brand - comes in 1kg bags (usually in the isle with all the gatorades and cordials etc).
    Cheers

    Hi all,
Found the dextrose, thanks for that Luella, made my first sweet dish since starting, a blackberry crumble using Davids recipe, it was lovely, only had 1 complaint about sweetness an that was the berries(used frozen ones). I only had a small serve as I wasn't feeling that hungry so thats progress, am really enjoying not having the need to eat sweet stuff after meals an red wine.

    Hi Debra,

There are many good reasons for exercising. But losing weight is not one of them because it makes you hungry and you generally ingest more calories than you just lost. Also, it converts fat to muscle and muscle is heavier than fat!

DG suggests that if you put on weight unexpectedly, and maybe if you have struck a plateau, try going low-carb for a while.

Re BFL I'd concentrate on weight loss before looking too deeply into its recommendations.
