How Much Sugar?

How long until you brought dextrose into the menu?

    Hi all,

I've been on the sugar-free eating for almost three weeks now, and feeling pretty damn good. I've been lucky to see 0.5kg loss each week (this week is trending the same), and while I have amazed myself at how strong I've stayed to not buckle, or be tempted by sugary treats (I used to be the "chocolate-hider-in-the-house") I still find at those weak times that David had us identify, I could definitely chomp in to some sweet chocolate or a can of coke.

For those of you who've been through this, how did you know you were through the withdrawal period? I can't find any reference in either Sweet Poison or the Quit Plan as to the time period this would be. I'd love to have something sweet, so have purchased some Dextrose and been looking through the sweet recipes but I don't want to go backwards in what I've achieved so far.

    Thank you!

I only bought dextrose to bake with.I have heard of some folk who sprinkle it on their porridge of a morning.I use rice malt syrup. As for how long it takes to lose that" wanting something sweet"
feeling,I wish I knew.I started this new way of eating in February and I have not got used to it yet.I have lost nearly 5kilos but now I am stuck.Have been to 2 parties recently and both times I had desert.Won't belt myself up but I need to get myself back into  gear. Can anybody help please.

That was a difficult one and I had to re-read the sections of the book a couple of times to be sure. What I understand is that if you're going cold turkey you can use the dextrose anytime. If you're slowly weaning yourself off the fructose, then you have to wait til after withdrawal. I have used it during withdrawal (going cold turkey) and it was fine.

My understand is that it's OK to use dextrose as a substitute for sugar once you have weathered the withdrawal period.

I made the Chocolate TV slice recipe in the first week. Between my husband and I and the four kids, it lasted about 5 days. That was the only treat stuff we had all week and it pretty much got me through the first week. I'm now in week 2 and I made another batch but I chopped it up and froze it, and I made another different slice that has hardly any dextrose in it and that has lasted 3 days so far. I have no desire to eat the TV chocolate slice this week so far, but its there if I get desperate!
