How Much Sugar?

The sugar got me!

I have been sugar free for over a month until today. I was really strict on how much sugar I would allow myself to have, food had to contain less than 0.6 or I wouldn't have it. I was sucking back the coke zero though and switched to pepsi max because I don't like the taste and that would make it easier to give up. I did that a few days ago, just got up one day and decided not to drink it anymore. So, we are going to a party next weekend and I volunteered to bring dessert. I make muffins without sugar, so will be able to eat these but I'm also making a chocky mousse which has heaps of sugar in it. Did a test run today and ended up with all this mousse, so decided to eat some of it. Figured it could be the occasional party treat David talks about in the book. Yeah, right! Had a spoonful and was almost sick from the sweetness. Later on, kept finding myself going back to sneak more and more and even though I was feeling sickly, just had to have it. Ah, sugar. WON'T be doing that again! After crashing for a couple of hours, I am now suffering a complaining liver and sucking back water to help cleanse my system quicker. If I ever needed proof of how much an addict I used to be, then I now have it. Michelle

Hey Michelle. This episode is probably a blessing in disguise.  It proves the theory that "Once an addict, always an addict." After being sugar free for so long,it also reminds you how lousy the body feels when you eat sugar. I know - I've done it!

Hi, I can so relate to this.  The sugar got me to at Christmas.  I decided that "party foods are for parties" which in my addictive mind equates to "go for it if you have a good enough excuse" I made a casata - party food- out of Pauls sugar free icecream with sugar full turkish delight.  I had to keep eating it until it was all gone.  Thankfully I am back on track since then generally but I slip - I recently ate 8 chocolate bisuits - no amount of feeling like crap deters me.  I just have to get back on if I fall off as soon as possible.  I also notice very strongly how much I eat to appease my emotions.  I find I look for s/f alternatives and eat the odd extra piece of fruit.  In the main I'm on the wagon and feel better for it and I've lost a few kgs.

Did that at Easter. I think the way we feel after sugar proves it is poison to our bodies. I can't ever see myself wanting to go back.
