Re-addiction to sugar

I'm an ex-smoker (6 years since I gave up those nasty things) so I know that having 'just one' spelt disaster when trying to quit.

Is it the same with sugar? Can an ex-sugar addict have a little sugar are not become addicted again? I would hate to inadvertanly eat some sugar and become addicted again?

Also, if I try to wean my child off sugar but still give her a 'treat' every now & then, is this some form of cruelty to children?

Love to hear your thoughts...   Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer

I don't think it is as bad as smoking but it is more mentally that just one won't hurt then becomes two, three etc.

I have also found that things don't taste the same once you are fully off.  Most things you miss and think of trying don't give you that same warm fuzzy heavenly felling anymore.  I have also found I get a tummy upset.  That will put you off anything.

Aslo I have found if you try something you think is ok but not you can taste it.  I know sometimes it can happen accidently so I make sure I am extra careful for the next couple of days and can also spot the cravings rather than hungry feelings.

It is a lot of trial and error.  Six months down the track and I am still finding new things good and bad.

Keep up the good work and good luck.

    Thanks Jan.

I've been fructose-free (well as much as I can be) for nearly 3 weeks and I feel great - plus losing a few kilos is a bonus.

I cetainly dont want to eat/drink anything with sugar in it anymore but it's the accidental slip ups that get me concerned. I'm sure I will feel 'off' if a do consume something with sugar in it again. But I will hop right back into my sugar free foods.

As for my partner, he may take some convincing - he loves his bundy & cola so that may be an issue. And my toddler, well she will just need to eat/drink what I give her! As things run out in the pantry I'm trying to either replace them with a low sugar version or I simply don't buy it anymore, and then it can't be given to her (or my partner).
