.......and then a funny thing happened!

In over 9 months I have not had one square of chocolate, not one sweet biscuit or piece of cake...no lollies, no white sugar, no shop-bought ice cream, no soft drinks, no muffins; in fact I have followed scrupulously the advice given in David's books. I have lost 11 kilograms and reduced my girth by 10 centimeters and I am pleased with myself in every aspect.

I did not suffer from withdrawals, despite my previous very high sugar intake, and I have not had any cravings.

But yesterday I was in Coles and noticed they were selling on special, german made Black Forest cakes. Along with lemon meringue pies, black forest has always been my favourite desert. I thought about it last night and this morning I went to Coles and bought one.

I invited some friends for lunch, and afterwards doled out the aforementioned gateau...It was bloody lovely!

It was so nice in fact that I am determined to have another one.......for Christmas. I may even supplement it with a new year's lemon meringue.

    Happy days!

    Hi David

    Was it worth it?

I often look at old favourites and wonder what they now taste like.  A couple of times when I've had something sweet by accident I get a stomach upset.  Did you have any effects like that.  What about the next day - did you have cravings.  Like you being sugar free 7months and lost all my weight I don't want to back peddle but sometimes it would be good to be normal when your out with friends.

    Hi Jan,

It was worth it as a special treat, but as David says, party food is okay for parties. The massive sugar hit did make me feel crook. It is the post-sugar equivalent to a hangover and not something I want to endure on a regular basis.

I have found that many of my friends have started to keep nuts in their pantries for when I visit. I have not prompted this, it is just something that has occurred. So when friends get stuck into the sweet stuff, I am not abandoned. Conversely, when I know sweet toothed friends are visiting, we make sure there are snacks for them. Turfing out uneaten Tim Tams once would have been impossible...now it is just more unusable left over food.

    Regards

    David F
