Just wanted to share how I use fresh dates. They are a wonderful discovery for me. I cute them up and cook them in my oats, organic of course, every morning. They really add a nice sweetness to the porridge. I think add fresh grated nutmeg and ground linseed. Hubby eats this now and doesn't add his usual brown sugar. That's about the only success I've had at getting him to not eat or add sugar. I also will whiz up the dates together with plain or greek yoghurt. They add that sweetness to the tart yoghurt. No other "sugar" is needed. Yummy!

Dates are a fruit, so obviously fructose in there.  Not sure how much, but aren't they dried, usually ? Dried fruit is out, because it concentrates the fructose in it.

dates are also quite high sugar content wise and will contain a lot of fructose, the sweeter the fruit the more fructose it contains.  Go for berries they are quite low in fructose.

Sorry to shoot you down.  I had a friend who went sugar free a decade or so ago.  He teased me about sugar all the time.  He lived on soy milk and ate tons of honey.  The addiction finds sugar, even if you're not aware of it.

    Hi Christian and Janelle, *grin*

Christian the dates are fresh not dried. I stay away from dried fruit, like a good girl. You're not shooting me down either. Janelle...I find most berries sour, and the point of the dates is their sweetness. I know they're a bit high in frutose, but better than adding honey or brown sugar. *grin*

Thanks, guys. Off to the gym to work off my dates. *grin*

*grin* I'm sure everyone is finding their own path in all this, and I do suspect that we don't need to eat NO fructose, just as little as we can, I ate sugar a month in to being on this plan, b/c I was travelling in the US and was surprised that I still lost weight.  So, whatever works for you, is great :-)
