    Hi everyone,

Can I interchange Vanilla Essence for Vanilla extract? and vice versa?
Which is the 'better' version in regards to sugar content?

    Thanks

You can get imitation vanilla essence which I believe has little, although it doesn't have a very strong vanilla flavour so you need about double the amount.  Next step up is vanilla essence, it has a little sugar but overly nothing much to worry about it's got a moderate flavour so you can use the same amount as per recipe.  Next level up is vanilla extract, it's got a very strong flavour and you don't need as much depening on taste, same amount as recipe or less it contains quite a bit of sugar though.  The best one to get is vanilla paste, it's got the best flavour and you only need a little.  Honestly, I'd go the vanilla extract.  Youd don't need much and the amount of fructose you get in one tiny teaspoon is very minimal.

I have purchased on line "Pure Organic Vanilla Powder" from http://sunshinevanilla.com.au/   This is really nice tio use and I use it in the ice cream and any other recipe that has any form of vanilla.  It does however give the recipe a fibre.

    Try it for yourself
