    Hi,
I would love to give Davids icecream recipe a try. Has anyone been successful with it and if so, which icecream maker's work best.
    Thanks
    Clare

    Hi

I have tried the Old Fashion Chocolate Icecream, next time I think I will add more cocoa for a stronger flavour. Mine came out well using a $20.00 machine I got a target sometime ago. The machine has a bowl which you freeze and a churner which clicks on the top, I have made other icecream in it, also with success. I am going to try the one I posted this weekend to see how it goes.

Will let you know how I get on.

    Hi Clare,

Certainly try the ice cream recipes - they are fantastic, honestly they taste just as good as all the market brands - my kids love them, I myself prefer the old fashion vanilla ice cream and so easy to make.

We purchased a Sunbeam Ice Cream Maker ($50) - it was a worthy purchase, though ice cream has to be made in advance (ie. freeze canister for 18hrs, cool ice cream mix over night) I have found this gives the best results.

I made the icecream today, chocolate and oh boy is it delicious.  I used a 20 buck cake mixer from coles and then changed later to a milkshake maker to whip it up and it was perfect, even miss 10 agrees.  I will be making this weekly from now on.
    Thanks heaps David

Hi Julie, Sounds great! Do you mean you just mixed the ingrediants and then froze it? If so, how long did you freeze for?
    Thanks

Hi Clare, yes I used a $20 cake mixer/beater to start with and then decided to change to the milk shake maker, i did this probably every 1 1/2 hours until frozen.  It took pretty well all day to freeze hard.

I bought a Lumia churn from Aldi and have tried twice. The churn doesn't get a good press and the first try it kept overheating. The result was more like a frappe than ice cream

On the 2nd try the churn worked OK but the mixture was still liquid after 30 minutes. Same result as before. THEN I  discovered that you can't use "lite" thickened cream as it is marked "not suitable for whipping" :-(

We are currently thawing and beating the daylights out of it with the 100-watt mixer. Here's hoping.

I have tried David's recipe using a $25 ice cream maker from Aldi's and have had great success with the vanilla ice cream and banana ice cream mashing the banana and adding it to the mixture. The best way to keep in in the freezer is in the cup cake silicon containers, they are easy to pop out for individual servings. The recipe makes 12 cup cake servings. Make sure you always keep the icecream insert in the freezer until you Ready to use it. Good luck.

    Thanks Liz,

Never thought to freeze in the silicon containers, much easier to serve up individual portions, and would be good for childrens parties if shapes were used.
