I used to love my Hot Choccie before bed & found a cup of tea just wasn't hitting the spot, so I tried a few ingredients along with the dextrose; so I could have my cake and eat it too, (so to speak)

If your like me then give this Hot Cocoa a try and hopefully you enjoy as much as me.

    3 tbls cocoa

    1/4 cup dextrose

4 cups of milk (I use lactose free)

    1/4 tsp vanilla essence

Heat milk on stove top, In a seperate bowl mix dextrose and cocoa, when milk is heated through take 1/3 cup out and combine with dextrose and cocoa, slowly return to the lightly boiling milk continuously stirring, add 1/4 tsp pf Vanilla essence.

This recipe can be halved and will make a mug & a half

For a hot cocoa with a difference add a small stick of cinnamon to the milk

    Serve and enjoy :-)

Hi, Brodie, sounds good.....here's my simpler recipe, I guess you could add the cinnamon at the end if you wished. I'm not a cinnamon person, myself.

Fill a cup almost to the top with whole milk, (if not lactose intolerant) , pour 99% of it into a microwave sucepan, add 1 stevia tablet. Microwave on high 2 minutes, (mine is also 1100 W)
Stir. Whilst the milk is heating, add 1 rounded teaspoon of cocoa powder to the milk left in the cup and stir vigorously, turn microwave back on high, and monitor, and when it starts to boil up, pour 1/3rd into the cup, and stir hard, then pour over the rest, add full fat cream, poured over the back of the teaspoon, (tip just in liquid). It's seriously yummy.

When I run out of the Bourneville Cocoa, am going to buy some organic cacao powder or nibs. Probably the powder. I couldn't stand the dextrose in my cocoa, didn't like the taste.

I could probably have it without any sweetener, really.

    Enjoy,

    Love

    Hi Sylvia
you can get the Organic Cacao at the little shop selling discount vitamins at 546 Rocky Point Road, (ABC Discount Vitamins) just before Captain Cook Bridge on the way to Cronulla, I paid $16.95 for 500gms. A bit more expensive than Bourneville but a lot more healthy. To get the discount, one becomes a member, which doesn't cost anything but we get 10% off.

I have it unsweetened in a mug, lovely at about 3.00pm when I get peckish. I only have two meals a day now, since going low carb and only need a little top up at this time. Sometimes I have a handful of nuts too if I am a bit more than peckish.
    Have fun
    cheers
    Freda
