    Hi Guys,

Just want a little guidance on bread?  Is it ok to have for breakfast? I am usually time poor in the morning and have just enough time to through down a piece of toast.  I am not losing any weight, I do feel that I am hitting the wall.  I just wanted to see some movement (and I have a hell of a lot to move 40kgs) really need that number thing to keep me from a large fall off the wagon.  Any advice would be gladly accepted.... :0 Diana

    Hi Diane

For breakfast, I have bread every day.  I have one slice, and I put mushrooms and prosciutto on it ( I wonder if regulars here are sick of seeing me say that :P ).  If you're time poor, a slice of cheese and some avocado is very nice, and does not take long to make.  You could also boil eggs before and put egg on there, or ham and egg, or any other combo.  Having a number of slices of toast is probably a bad thing, but having one bit as the base of your meal both makes sense if you're in a hurry ( you can carry it, eat it in the car even if you need to ), and is actually the best option I could find, yoghurt and fruit has fructose, and most cereals do, too.

I can totally understand not having enough time! My daily breaky I made the night before and just heat it up in the microwave and eat it on my way to work in the car (with my latte) while dropping kids off.  I usually have half a wrap, with a boiled egg, 12g ham and 11g of cheese.  Keeps me going for a good few hours, then about mid morning I will have some strawberries or yoghurt.  I find bread doesn't fill me up as much so if I do have bread I have heaps of fillings on top. How long have you been sugar free? What is your daily menu like?

    Hey Janelle,

I have done some research and found that grainy bread from bakers delight has very low sugar content.  I have frozen it in slice lots and pull one out every morning to have toast.  At the moment I have vegemite but I am looking at planning better and maybe getting up that little bit earlier to cook some eggs..... Hard in the winter months but nothing is easy I guess.  I have dropped 3 kilos - four weeks sugar "reduced' - I am not going to say sugar free as I will indulge in bread, pasta and I had a few to many beers.  Drives me nuts, the one and only time I decide to give something a real red hot go and I end up at the pub after work drinking what I thought was the best option at the time.  I love this forum, I feel slightly isolated from friends and family as they seem to scoff at the idea of sugar being poison.  I came to the opionion that I would just not talk about it for fear of ridicule - so you guys on here are my only hope. I will try and ease up on the bread and pasta and let you all know how I go.

    thanks guys :)

Bread traditionally doesn't or shouldn't have much sugar, so go for the fresh baked ones (even the freshly baked bread in coles/woolies/iga), they will contain little or no sugar, it's mainly all the tip top etc brands that have sugar.  I actually don't see any problems with carbs, it's more the amount of food you eat that you need to control.  I have pasta and rice and some bread (depending on what we have left in the fridge before shopping lol).  Beer and other alcohol is fine just avoid the sweet wines and liquors (like baileys).  Beer, dry white or red wine, spirits are all fine to drink, but remember to drink in moderation and be careful for replacing other things for sugar.
