Hi everyone, I have been sugar free for 6 days now and sofar I have not had any major
withdrawal symptoms, I think when I analysed my diet I did not eat a lot of sugar. No sugary drinks,
no sugar in coffee, only ate chocolate, lollies, cake, dessert when I went on an occasional binge.
I think having had type 1 diabetes for 36 years helps. But I still have a sweet tooth when I pig out.
I have started to do this program mainly to improve my health and hopefully to controll my blood
sugars better, as I only want to lose about 6kgs.
Anyway after that long introduction the question i want to ask is that I have read David's book
Big Fat Lies and the main thing I have got from that is that the type of fat he suggest not to eat makes
it very difficult to buy a lot of food because most of it has added 'vegetable oil', seed oils.
How are others approaching this. What type of food do you eat. Do you watch the type of fat you eat?
Or do you just watch the fructose, thinking that, that is hard enough to manage?

It is a challenge, that's for sure.  For me, I find it comes back to basically buying unprocessed food for the most part, and then making my own food from scratch, and using whatever fat I desire.  Although I find that in a pinch I will sometimes go for some processed foods that have a smaller quantity of vegetable/seed oils and more saturated fats.

Hi I do the same thing make everything, but I still have a small bag of plain potato chips( I buy the small bag so I dont over eat them) or fish an chips but its more as a treat than a everyday food. Hopefully I will eventually give up bought one's but am not stressing over it to much.

Elaine, I think a lot of people don't bother with avoiding the vege oils, or at least are not as strict.  This makes sense, vege oil is not addictive, so the price you pay for a bit of fish and chips is all short term.  Really, I don't think there's a better answer than only buying unprocessed foods.  I've avoided vege oil for a long time, although I work harder at it since reading the books than I did.  I buy big tins of Aussie olive oil and use it in everything I need oil for.

we rarely eat out so when we do I don't mind nor do I worry.  When I'm cooking at home however I use a lot of olive oil.

I came across this great site, explaining all about saturated fat etc. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/saturated-fat-healthy/#axzz24ug706Bc
    another great reference site is

I have read David's book on fat, and I have been able to largely avoid vegetable/seed oils. Only use olive oil for cooking. No processed foods containing veg oils. We eat pretty simple anyway and hardly go out for dinner. When we do eat out, I order steak and salad - easy.
