Hi, I am new to this site....Have been sugar free for about 2 weeks and feeling so much better.

Have just had a look at carrots and am a bit confused, I love carrots and they seem to have a fair bit of sugar in them.  I could easily eat two medium carrots per day, or around 100 gm.

Is the sugar in carrots OK, or should I cut down?

2 carrots will contain about 10 ( not 100 ) g of sugar.  This is about the amount David suggests we eat, so I'd suggest having carrots instead of fruit, and make that your 10 g for the day.

you will find heaps of foods and fructose content here http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumerinformation/nuttab2010/nuttab2010onlinesearchabledatabase/onlineversion.cfm?&action=search

100g of carrots has 2.35g of fructose (2.5g of sucrose which is 50% fructose plus the 1.1g fructose content).  David recommends 10g of fructose per day, sugar (or sucrose) is 50% fructose so you just divide the amount by 2.  Anything in David's good list you don't need to count towards your fructose limit because these all converted to glucose in the body.  Anything on the bad list you will need to count towards your daily limit (using a basic 50% glucose 50% fructose ratio.

By looking at your daily menu, honestly seems ok but a few things:

A banana contains about 6.2g of fructose per 100g (not including skin).  Fruits are high in fructose (berries are the lowest), you can limit these to a couple per week (I used to love fruits, pre sugar I had fruit for morning and afternoon tea now I don't have any, except in my muffins or cakes I make).

Keep an eye on any added sugar in tomato sauce/pasta sauce that you buy.  Tinned tomatoes contain added sugar so pick ones that don't or better yet use passata sauce.
