I have been following a mixture of these two ways of eating and wondered if there was anyone else out there who is familiar with these books as well as David's.

    Hi Gillian
I am familiar with the Paleo way of eating but have not done it myself.  A friend has success with it. There is a lot of similarity between the two diets. Paleo seems to be eat food only in natural or raw way.

Good luck whichever way you go

I have tried following David's no fructose way, and unfortunately have not managed to lose any weight.  Initially, I lost a couple of kilos but after about 6 months I fell off the wagon, and it took me about 12 months to get back on track with no weight loss success.  Then I read Wheat Belly, and followed up with The Paleo Diet and The Paleo Answer by Loren Cordain Ph.D.  I got serious about the no sugar, and no wheat and little carbs (pasta, rice, beans etc) and had some success with the weight loss.  Then I decided to go total Paleo (no dairy either) according to Loren Cordain and I have now managed to drop a total of 10 kgs.  I still have a meal here or there that has perhaps a potato, or some dressing on a salad that was obviously sugar laden, but I am still losing and not really struggling with it at all.  I have learnt to make the odd sweet in a Paleo way to satisfy any yearning I may get for a biscuit or cake.  It may not be for everyone, but it is working for me and I am liking the results with out really feeling deprived.
