My first Christmas without the sugar, anyone with recipes for a Christmas Cake? Have never not made a cake, it's almost a religion! Please help!

Hi Johanna, this will be my second xmas fructose free and I'm like you - religously bake a cake and puddings. So it's the one time of year when I bake my cake and puddings and only have a small piece, for me and my family it's not xmas without them. Everything else I bake using dextrose. I think it's your call and I can live with my decision. Have a great xmas.

    cheers

    Jayne

Hi  I too have had the do I or don't I debate, an have decided not to bake this year, my mum is so will make the choice to eat it or not when it happens. Her fruit mince pies are to die for so might just hang out for 1 of those, but am really wary of kick starting the cravings again. have already a re start this year after a 6 week holiday.

Hi! I think Christmas comes under the "party food is for parties" heading, just tricky because there just so much partying at this time of year!

This is my second fructose free Christmas, I'll probably have a small serve of traditional pudding with dextrose custard, and just enjoy all the other savoury delights of the season. There are plenty of those too!

    Merry christmas everyone,

    Sandra

Thank you all so much for your comments. I cannot deny myself the pleasure of yearly rituals by making the once a year cake and puddings. I will probably indulge as well but do not feel I will have a problem with the sugar cravings, plus it will be so worthwhile. I will use the dextrose wherever possible, such as the custard which will also be flavoured by alcohol used. Am looking forward to these indulgences. Perhaps I'm still craving??
Happy cooking and a joyful Christmas
