    Hi

I'm also new to this site and would love to know if anyone has lost weight?  This is agenda as well as health of course but I do need to lose 15kg's........

    Any feedback from anyone?

Also - you don't eat the sweet recipes all the time do you if you are dieting?  It's only if you need to have something???

    Thanks

    Hi Em,
Congratulations on starting fructose free.  The sweet recipes are really for if you NEED to have something, if you are trying to loose weight. Remember, dextrose has the same calories as sugar, it just doesn't have the fructose.  So if you can cut out everything with sugar, and leave off the dextrose treats, the weight should start dropping off.  Good Luck

I find the dextrose baking to be fairly  uninteresting cos I don't get the sugar buzz. (which kind of proves it's existence to me, and that it is addictive!!)so that is easier. But for the family I bake the occasional dessert using dextrose.

The weight does come off, but slowly. Being female I find the PMT week is a week of seeking carbs and either NOT losing weight or regaining a little, then the next week, off it comes! So this is interesting. Males have it a bit easier I think.

I'd accept that life is now savoury apart from fresh fruit, tho now I have discovered that milk puddings work well with dextrose. Most people hate sago or rice pudding, but my mum used to cook them well, so I have a happy association, you don't need much dextrose as the lactose in milk seems almost sweet enough. I put too much dextrose in the sago 2 nights ago, and it seemed too "glucosy" so will be more sparing in future. Just an occasional treat mind you. Best of luck with your discoveries!

    Hi Eugenie and welcome

I've only been frustose-free for 18 days but I've already lost 3.5kgs.  I have a fair amount to lose, but it's an encouraging start!  I have combined the new eating with calorie counting, to keep track of how much/what I'm consuming.  I use the MyNetDiary app for my iphone and have found it to be really education and helpful in helping me curb my eating.  I've only been going such a short time I can't really comment on the sweet things except to say that I thought I would need treats so I made the jelly snakes and fudge recipies from this site (my fudge didn't really work out) and also chocolate mousse (which was awesome) but I haven't felt the need to have them every night.  The fudge ended up in the freezer, and most of the mousse/snakes are still in the fridge as I haven't felt the urge to eat them.

    Good luck with it all,
    Michelle

Thanks so much for replying ladies.  I hope this is the right way to reply to your messages.  It makes it easier to keep going with others doing the same.

I have found I've dropped some weight , a couple of kg's but I feel soo much better - not bloated.  Mind you I eat porridge for breakfast, don't seem to require snacks, try and have salad and stuff for lunch and stirfry and rice for dinner - most days.  I'm not as hungry anymore....which says I should continue to lose weight -  hopefully.

I am not interested in sweet food at all.

    Thanks again for your replys

I wish I had a iPhone!!!  It sounds fun.

Goodluck and keep up the great work!  Hey - how many kj's do you eat each day?  I wouldn't know how much I would need.

Do you also minimise carbs?  Ok 20 questions here...................

    Thanks

    Hi Em

iPhones rock!  The MyNetDiary is also available on the internet, in case you're interested.  I set myself an 18 month target to lose 25kg.  The MyNetDiary worked out for me that I needed to consume 1865 Calories a day (sorry - don't know kilojoules - is that like 8,000 a day or something?) to reach my target.  I find I'm able to stick fairly closely to that most days and I still don't feel deprived or overly hungry.  I'm not limiting carbs.  I actually prefer not to eat massive amounts of carbs for dinner anyway as I don't sleep well afterwards, but other than that I'm not reducing the amount of carbs I eat.

Good luck with it all - it's an interesting journey.  I'm now one month in and 4kg down, so I'm really pleased so far.

    Cheers
    Michelle

Hi Everyone, I am in week 5 of being sugar fee and haven't lost any weight. The best part is the whole family is doing it so I have lots of support. I have noticed that I am not bloated and my clothes are feeling much better. The biggest comment I have to giving up sugar is my 2 year old son is so different. We didt have fruit juices, cordials, etc in the house, and I was making the kids home cooked biscuits, etc and not bought from the shop, but now make all my own with dextrose, but my little one has changed the most. He wasn't a crazy out of control child before, but he is calmer, and dosen't ask for food constantly anymore. My 13 and 12 year olds have changed aswell and are doing really well. We have dessert once a week to give them a treat and they really enjoy it. Any tips to getting some weight off would be good. Meg

Hi, Meg, how much weight do you have to lose? If it's heaps, then I'd be checking out (in detail) what I'm actually eating, ie looking for hidden sugar, ie sauces, pe-packaged foods.  Either that, or cut back a little on your portion sizes. Especially meals that have rice /pasta or potatoes in them. I had to do this, I also have swapped brown rice for white, and wholemeal pasta for white, as I find that if I eat too many carbs, I stop loosing weight. As well, when I first started, I was eating heaps of bread, mainly sandwiches for lunch & 2 slices for brekky. I now only have 1 slice for brekky, and found that worked for me. But then I'm post menopausal, while you're pre......From what I am able to glean from the lovely people that write on this forum, if they don't have much weight to lose, it needs a concentrated effort to find out why you're not losing.  Keep a food diary, and check it out, that one that was mentioned earlier in this thread seems good, The MyNetDiary, (thanks Michelle for that) thinking of looking it up myself, as I've found myself slowing down & still need to lose another 27 kilos.

Lots of tips about this all on here & over on David's other forum, Sweet poison (it's free), so when you have time (!) it's worth looking up the different threads for info.

    Best of luck with it

Good heavens, YES!  Over about 6 months I  lost 10kg and, more importantly perhaps, 10cm off my waist. I wasn't obese (185cm tall, 84kg, 104cm waist) but was concerned about my waist line especially, as it is very unhealthy for men to have a waist over 94cm and women over 80cm.

I  simply stopped eating or drinking stuff with fructose in it. This included cane sugar, honey, jam, Promite, cakes, chocolates, sweets etc. I had no withdrawal symptoms and  no guilt about eating "party food' on appropriate occasions. My wife made no adjustments to her cooking practices which were pretty low in fat & sugar anyway. I just don't eat the stuff that has a lot  of sugar in it. And I  became an avid label reader when in the supermarket.

One bonus is that, after any withdrawal symptoms are gone, you don't have to worry about fat since it is the fructose which makes you fat, not fat. When your appetite-control system is working properly again you will only take in as much fat as you need - your body will tell your brain when you reach that point and you simply won't want any more. The same goes for food generally.

I've had all my best trousers reduced to fit comfortably and look and feel great for an 80 year old :-)

So . .  GO FOR IT!  Like stopping smoking, the more you achieve the better motivated you will be not to regress. If you need support, well here it is, in these forums!
