Message: Hi David, I'd like to ask a question to get it right in my head about corn syrup, in the discussion forum you've said thebrand Groovey (lollies) are ok and someone else wrote in and said there are ones that are called love hearts as well, and I thought you said they are ok too, I have just finished watching the Dr talk on youtube, sugar its a bitter truth, very interesting, he said corn syrup solids should be avoided, this is were I get confused, When it comes to having corn syrup in the ingredients, can we have it at all look forward to your reply thanks Lyn

It is very confusing Lyn ... unfortunately there are no laws governing how things like corn syrup are labelled.  In Australia the majority of products that include corn syrup on the list of ingredients, mean glucose syrup (some even say that or sometimes dextrose syrup).  They are generally sweetened with pure glucose and fine for us avoiding fructose.

In the US, there is real confusion.  Corn syrup can mean anything from 0% fructose to 55% fructose ... so caution must be the name of the game.  If there is any product you are not sure about, just let me know what it is and I'll see what I can find out.

    Cheers
    David.
