Really wanna eat...

I have been having bad cravings to eat the last couple of weeks. I am not hungry, and there is no food I particularly want, but I just want to eat. It's mainly when I am working so I am assuming there are 2 causes. The first is I am procrastinating on doing the work I hate the most so am trying to find something else to do, and the second is, I think, because it's cold I associate that with eating warm and fuzzy food.

I am being good though, only really eating when I am actually hungry, but have been going overboard a little with the hot chocolates and the cups of tea. This results in many toilet stops. There’s that procrastinating again. Maybe I should just get the work done and stop having a reason to procrastinate.

Speaking of hot chocolate, it's about time for another.

    Hi Sally,

I have exactly the same problems. I am trying a new tactic, so you might like to try it: I am drinking ore water. I make it warm, with a bit of hot water added to  tap water, and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the chlorine to evaporate (it tastes better then. Thanks Melbourne Water!).

I got the idea after reading that those vague cravings are for water, and are caused by our bodies crying out for fresh water to cleanse us from daily toxins. I recommend that you drink water regularly over the day- it prevents the cravings, rather than try to deal with them when they are really bad. Imagine a really whingy toddler- better to deal with it sooner than later.

let me know if it helps!

I have only just started on this whole fructose free adventure (I think I'm up to day 3).. and I HAVE been eating.. it's been a bit of a disaster actually.. I've been pigging out on SOOO many things. I guess I've been using the excuse 'well it doesn't have fructose in it'. I will have to try to remember to get back to a more normal eating plan (ie I've heard that some people eat breakfast, lunch and dinner!).

On the other hand - I know a lot of my eating yesterday was because of procrastination. I couldn't make myself clean the house, I was fiddle flaffing around and it was SOOOOO annoying.. hence the food.. argh..

anyway, I'm sure I'll get used to it all eventually. I know what it's like to be sugar free from past times and that's been fine. So I'm sure I'll get used to this as well.

    Good luck everyone :)

Goodonyer, Robyn, you little possum!  Just do what you have to do to not eat sugary things. I went back to eating crisps, I gave them up about 5 years ago. And I ate heaps of bread, toast, sandwiches & the like. I still lost 6.6 kilos in 4 months, but then I started putting it back on, so then 'tweaked' my intake, cutting back on the bread, substituted nuts for crisps, still was eating too much of them tho', so changed from cashews to almonds. Then I started making smaller size portions. That took a little bit of getting used to, but it works!
You are only just into it a little way. I'm so amazed to find myself 9 months in & still losing weight.
As I always say, keep busy, actually make yourself do things, especially if this entails moving around some, as incidental exercise is our goal too. As you start to lose weight, this will motivate you to keep on going.
Remember, what you focus your mind on, it will happen. Do like some other Mums have done & get  Wii Fit, if you can, ask for it as a present, birthday etc...(Don't know why I'm assuming you're a Mum!!  Ooops)

Are you on the Sweet Poison forums too? Lots of info there. And lots of lovely helpful people, too. They are just waiting to help you. Isn't it great you can come on a forum & just vent?

Good luck to you, don't give up, if you need motivation, join SparkPeople forums. They're not necessarily fructose savvy, but, hey, the more uf us that are on there spreading the fructose free message, maybe we can change the Americans round to our way of thinking, instead of the other way round. They still use low-fat things to motivate their members, but we know better, & it's our job to help change the world, I say!!!!  haha   But there are some Aussie based SparkTeams, with some lovely people who are just waiting to help motivate you as well. Use all these things to take your mind off food. I do, frequently.

    All the best

Sally, i have been sugar free for nearly 4 weeks now, and the first week i went nuts on eating all the things i had cut out, like Brie cheese, Kabana, crackers, nuts, crisps etc.......but now what i eat lasts me so much longer, so i am pretty much eating only 3 meals aday, perhaps a lil snack once a day, and a cup of hot milk before bed. If i am hungry tho, i go for some water before i eat.  :)

REPLACING FOODS WITHOUT FEELING (TOO) DEPRIVED.

Hi everyone since forever my breakfast has consisted of two slices of toast slathered with margarine one with a heap of Promite and the other lime marmalade (and I mean a heap).  Now I still have the toast but with less and less butter and on one I have a couple of slices (thin) of cheese or an egg and on the other some sliced apple sprinkled with cinnamon- this settles my desire for something sweet.  Also I`m noticing that I`m pushing to actually eat the two slices so think I`ll give a go at cutting that back.  I`m 2 weeks and 2 days cold turkey and this morning yeeehaa see I am half a kilo down.

My withdrawal symptoms are slight depression now and then a bit of lassitude which passes once I push myself and I think I may have become lactose intolerant...bloating and dare I say it a great deal of er..flatulence,  must Google that to see if it is so or just some passing withdrawal symptom.

The other thing I`ve started to do is when I`m watching TV and a food commercial comes on I sit and say to myself `5 tsp sugar...yeah? well that`s got 6 tsp`...and so on this is a great way to reinforce the reason to stay away from the white death and the great silent sugar conspiracy.

What fun to be on this journey.  And it`s great to  read all the other posts so see I am not alone.
    Thanks to you all!

Hi all, I'm a new starter as well, day 4. I suppose I have a bit of an advantage as I have been trying to make the low carb, high protein thing work. It did for about 3 days then on came the sugar cravings. Now I know what is causing the problems I can address them.  I love being able to have toast again, with either peanut butter (from the Peanut Van) or vegemite. Another good one is a slice of bread (multi grain is my favourite), top with a slice of tomatoe and a slice of cheese and grill. I also have a couple of really great cake recipes that I am going to see if I can use the dextrose in. They are flourless so good for those who want a gluten free diet or are allergic to wheat. So far I'm not having too much trouble with the lack of sugar. I am having too much fun adding all the things I like and missed back into my diet. Here's hoping it all works

Welcome to you both.  Pam, I'd still be watching those carbs. Nasty little b*****s they are. I think I lost about 6 kilos before last Xmas, then, even though I'd been good over the silly season, I started to put on weight again, I put back on 3 kilos, I think, before I realised I had been doing what you are doing, eating all the things I used to before I started to cut out the fructose. It was the appetite control, with me it took about 4 months to really kick in. As soon as I cut back on bread/pasta/potatoes, and ate a bit more protein & watched the portion sizes, I began to lose weight again. I started beginning of Sept 2010, and have now lost 16 kilos.
It wasn't easy, but it happened slowly, and that's what you have to realise, it probably took a long time to put it on, it's not going to come off overnight, well, it may, but won't be good for you. Best to realise that this isn't a diet, It's a way of life, so don't expect spectacular things to happen, just enjoy them when they happen, first ,milestone, overcoming withdrawals, 2nd milestone, getting that appetite control back. That's when it will all be worth it.
So keep on doing what you can, the dextrose treats are just that, treats, not for everyday use, for special occasions only, (or in an emergency, of course, lol)........

I wish you both the very best with your new way of life. Focus on the good things, and the end game, and you will coast through it. If you get those little 'downer' times, just talk them away, any way you can. Do something different to what you're doing when you're having the thoughts. Just make yourself do whatever.
Run around the house naked, (always supposing you're alone! lol) read a book, watch TV, log on here & the Sweet Poison forum & vent, anything to take your mind off the negative thoughts.  (Warning, please be sure & warn your partner, if there's a possibility of you doing any of these things in the middle of the night!!) Blame me!!

Those are my tips for today, ladies!!  I hope they help.
