I missed it, as I thought he was on only on Monday!! But I clicked on the link David gave us & watched it all up to Thursday. Now have to wait for the Friday one, will be interesting watching David actually cooking. I thought it was always the lovely Lizzie that cooked, what an amazing woman.
Don't know that I could cope with what she's had to cope with (!)......

But am looking forward to it.

    Great work David.

Glad you did it on 7 & not Nine. The similar things they do on Nine just aren't very comprehensive, just skim the surface, leaving you with all sorts of questions.

hahahaha he didn;t actually cook Sylvia!! I jotted down the recipe tho, not done any cooking with Dextrose yet, after 4 weeks of sugar free, think i might have a stab at those muffins tomorrow tho!!  I tasted the Dextrose, and it tasted like icing sugar!! yay!! Sylivia, do you know anything about Malt extract? I got a tin today, but not opening it until i know it is ok, In David's sugar guide it says malt is good.........so thinking it is ok?

It depends which malt it is.

Maltose from the home brew shop is ok.  Nestle malted milk powder is ok in normal (as recommended quantities), not eaten by the spoonful out of the container though.  Rice Malt Syrup is fine (Coles health food section).  But I got a malt extract syrup from Coles and I've done a bit more looking on the internet site for that brand and it doesn't seem to be good.  Which is bad because I opened the container and it was about $8.

Which brand of malt is it Nadine and what did you find out?

Actually, cancel that.  It's Saunders Malt Extract and it is ok in small amounts.  But doesn't seem to be as good as Rice Malt Syrup though.

This is what David wrote to someone else's enquiry about it.

According to Saunders this is the breakdown

SUGARS CONTAINED IN SAUNDERS MALT EXTRACT
    Approx.

    Fructose        2%
    Glucose         8%
    Sucrose         2%
    Maltose        44%
    Maltotriose   12%

There's nothing to worry about with Maltose and Maltriose (both are simply combinations of glucose molecules).  Obviously the fructose is a concern and so is the sucrose (half fructose) ... so the thing is 3% fructose by weight which is the same as seeing 6g of sugar per 100 on the label. If you are only having a small amount then that is no big deal but if you are having lots of it a day (say more than 100g), then you'd probably want to cut back.

    Cheers
    David.

Thanks for that Nadine, I took back my unused tin of Saunders to Franklins today and they gave me my money back.
The strange thing is that the Pure Harvest Rice malt syrup I got from Coles is a lot sweeter than the Saunders, but I will use that instead as it has no fructose or sucrose in it.

Is anyone else having problems with this site today? (Monday 29th August). Everything seems to have reverted to be coming from Anonymous!! Plus if I try to just hit reply, as normal, I can't get the room to actually type in anything. Hitting on reply at top right of your post worked, though, but takes up a lot of room eh!!

I just wanted to say to you all, great thread, ladies, I wanted to know about malt as well, so now I know. Freda, great that Franklins gave you your money back!!  Curious to know what you actually said to them as to why you were returning it, though!!  hehe..

Have a lovely day, all of you

    Love

    Hi Silvia
are you sure you're logged in..........sometimes the "anonymous" title only comes up when you're not logged in.
I told Franklins that we simply couldn't eat it............the girl looked baffled but was ok about it.
I couldn't think of anything else to say!!!

Freda, all seems to have been fixed now, & yes, I was logged in. I have Firefox & it remembers all my passwords, so when I log in to the Net via Mozilla Firefox, I have to use the Master Password, this then enables me to open anything & it just logs me in. It's great for someone like me. I have so many newsletters I get, & I hate using the same passwords for all of them, I was losing track!!!!  So, this is a great add-on for me. I also have the Adblock Plus, and the Flagfox  add-on, which shows a little flag at the end of the website URL, on the right, & I can click on it to find out which country the Server is located in. Cool, huh?

I love what you said to the assistant, I'll bet she looked, well, gob smacked, I think that's what I was getting from you!!  heehee

What a laugh, good on you, you go girl!!

My place has lots of things I refused to take back to the store, most of them cheap stuff, but, nevertheless, I will think of you next time I really should take something back. I once took back a tube of liquid make-up, that was on a card. I was really broke that week, but really needed the lighter shade to mix with the dark one I already had. Well, I was in a bit of a rush, so picked up the dark one by mistake. It was only after I was taking it off the card that I noticed. Well, Coles wouldn't take it back, so I had to buy another one, the right one, this time. Can't tell you how many times I've done something like this!!  I get home & my DB will say, 'you got the wrong one/flavour/it's got garlic in it' etc etc etc  HaHa.....I guess I'm just not concentrating properly. I do try, honest!!  Sigh........

Well, onwards & upwards, bye for the night....
