Hi everyone, I started my new life 8 weeks ago full of enthusiasm, feeling great, losing a little weight, full of energy. I had 2 weeks holiday abroad. I was determined to stay true to myself. However, along came some saucy style pasta I could not resist, and it seems, from then on I was not as strong as I would like to have been. Currently, 2 weeks after returning, am finding it hard to get back on track. Cold turkey was easy before, I am sneaking in those 'only a little bit's' that I normally would reject. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Right from day one, I just cut out everything with sugar. Not thinking  of eating anything with sugar in it seemed to be the easiest option. Must admit that I have always liked nuts and chips better than sweet things though. I used to like things at Christmas like the trifle and tiramisu, but just closed my mind to even having a little bit, and that was much easier than tasting it (and wanting more) and wishing afterwards I hadn't.  Having non sugar snaks on hand is always a help.  You can do heaps with mountain bread and puff pastry. The mountain bread website has heaps of ideas and recipes. You can usually substitute dextrose for sugar.  With puff pastry, the vegemite and cheese scrolls are nice, warm or cold. Just a smear of vegemite over the puff pastry and sprinkle with grated cheese, roll up, slice about 1/4 inch thick and bake flat.(not standing up).  I expect you could do the same with smoked salmon, or tinned tuna and cheese.  Good luck.

If you fall off the wagon without knowing don't worry, get right back on and keep on going, you've done it once you can do it again!  I'd be cutting out all sugar and probably dextrose again until any cravings go away.

Welcome Deborah......my little tip is to eat more protein and cut back on those empty calorie carbs, pasta, potatoes & bread. You don't have to give them up entirely, just cut back. I make up a big pot of brown rice and freeze it in little individual size servings, all those little Tupperware pots I collected over the years are actually being used now, instead of taking up room in the cupboard!!  Thing is, I used to eat heaps of rice, but now I'm only having half as much, & I don't miss it. Every time I make up a one pot meal, beef stew or chicken stew, I make sure I have at least 2 servings left over to freeze. This way, you'll always have something to eat. I used to have a 'cooking day' around once a month at the week-end, when I was working full time, and would make dishes just to freeze. In individual or 2-person serving sizes.

Get rid of all those tempting things now, and research all the things you can eat, and make sure you have a stock of those. Good tip from Suzanne, if you like those little things, I can't be bothered! I just have a handful of nuts after dinner & I'm good to go. If you're still hungry at bedtime, make up some cocoa with hot milk & cream (thanks Janelle for that tip, love the cream in it, and to Bron for the original recipe)....one rounded teaspoon of cocoa per cup with a little Natvia or Stevia, put the milk in a microwave container to zap in the micro oven, leaving a little, about a teaspoon of liquid behind, just add the cocoa & stir into a thick paste, add the boiling milk/cream and stir like mad, result, lots of froth, Yummoooo....have with a small chunk of cheese, you will sleep like a baby!!

Good luck, Joanne, don't obsess, just make it your way of life from now on. good tip from Janelle, just get back on the wagon, and forgive yourself, you can do it, if I can do it, well, anyone can!!  Look at those lovely pics of your great holiday & keep busy. You will be able to save up for another one with all the money you save not eating all that poisonous fructose/sugar!!

You will be amazed at how good you will feel again....in just a few short weeks.

    Silver Angel  aka Sylvia

    SPREAD THE LOVE...............

    SMILE!!

    Hi,
Hot chocolate is great, I have a level teaspoon of un-sweetened cocoa mixed with a little coconut oil (about 1/2 - 1 tabsp), then top up with hot milk. The coconut oil mixes with the cocoa powder easily.   It is sweet enough without any sweetener added.

Made pumpkin soup the other day, and it was un-bearably sweet. Just pumpkin onion garlic and chicken stock.

    Hi Deborah

I think it's largely a mindset issue. I'll bet you went straight back to most of your 'home' routine - work/study/kids/pets/cleaning/paying bills/gardening... whatever you normally do. So, make eating the way you need to just one of those things that you do. (Need to listen to my own advice sometimes too :)).

    Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if Tamari Almonds contain sugar and if so, a lot or a little?

    Thank you.

Kate, I saw a recipe (google them) that included sugar. If you bought them just look at the ingredients list.

Yeah I'd be checking the ingredient list.  The Tamari soy sauce may contain sugar but from what I've looked up it is sugar free, however to countact the saltyness there may be added sugar in it.
