I think there is a lot of factors involved, firstly I think it depends on what the product is and what type of sugar is in the ingredient list. Basically when I'm looking for something I'll look at the ingredient list first to see what type of sugar is used. If it contains any of the safe sugars then I'll be happy to get it, if it contains any of the your call I may get it. If it contains any sugar or anything on the bad list then I'll basically see how much it is per 100g and look at the serving size (i'm usually happy with about 3-4g per serving, but it depends on the serving size), and where abouts on the ingredient list the sugar is (like it's it's listed third) but again you have to take into account any lactose if it's a dairy product. So it's really confusing, there is so much you need to consider. But never fear, it gets easier reading labels!
