I can withstand the chocolate quite easily (shock horror, former chocoholic) but I am really suffering withdrawal from the old Hot Cross Buns that are everywhere right now. Anybody got a good fructose free Hot cross bun reciepe they would like to share ? - Im going to try myself this weekend, but if someone else has already dont some leg work, any tips would be greatly appreciated !

I love hot cross buns!  I just make normal hot cross buns but just substitute the sugar for dextrose.  The ones I made last year were the best I've made yet, it was a recipe I got from better homes and gardens I think.  I'll have to have a look for them cause I want to make them again for this year.  I also have come cocoa butter in the cupboard so I'll be making my own chocolates.

Round here it's Passover where if you don't eat yourself into the ground and then do it all over again the next night something is seriously wrong. I'm weighing my options. Put the cakes under the napkin, claim religious fervour and beef out a prayer or hide in the bathroom. So far hide in the bathroom is winning.

*sigh* I eat hot cross buns like there's no tomorrow this time of year.  Pretty much every breakfast I've ever liked bar bacon and eggs is off the list, now.  I'm still working that part of my day out.

Just do what I did, tell them you don't eat sugar anymore.

This lot take their matzo shtrudel very seriously but you're right, why not tell them? It can only add to the fun watching me being chased down the hallway by those shtrudel wielding Nanas.

One extra thing I do is to take a dextrose based desert with me whenever we are invited out. They appreciate your doing this and they can't tell it's not made with sugar and you can enjoy something sweet at the same time. Maybe the cinnamon balls......my mother used to make those for Pesach and I'm sure you could try making them before the day. If you bake that is.

Freda I took your advice, I told them and you were right, it was fine. It actually was a bit of a race to the top, half the room was dieting and for a while it became a fress free zone and who was the best at sticking to their diet. The kids of course wanted none of that and devoured anything with chocolate or icing sugar near it. Without sounding too proud this was a bit of a milestone for me. I've been at this for six weeks and I thought that the combination of social pressure, politeness to the cooks and once a year amazing dishes might break my will. Well it didn't so a bit of a Mazeltov to me and I'm sure one to you too.

Very proud of us, we got one small egg each and they went straight in the bin! .... I did cry for an hour after but I'm ok now haha

We are just heading into the start of week 4 sugar free - woohoo!
