What to drink??

I am really struggling when it comes to beverages.

Firstly, I do not like water!!! I like something with some taste. I have been drinking diet soft drink and tea and coffee with equal for years ( I was instructed to do so by my dentist years ago!!) We tried mineral water and plain water, but it really doesn't do much for me.

Now we have our addiction under control - food is not an issue- I feel we shouldn't be drinking either diet softdrink or hot drinks with substitute sweetners. We have tried tea and coffee with dextrose and it just does not give the sweet hit we are use to and are not happy with the taste. I feel deprived, not good.

    Tried licorice tea...sorry yuck!

Has anyone got suggestions for alternative beverages. I can see this issue being our downfall, if we can't solve the problem I can see us coming unstuck.

    Desperate,

    Angela

Have you tried Lucozade. The original is sweetened only with glucose. I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners either, so I don't know what they are like, but the Jarrah range of drinks such as hot chocolate etc may be worth a try.

I always thought Jarrah drinks were made using artificial sweetener. Sorry if I led you along the wrong path...However...I have always enjoyed a hot cup of chocolate or Horlicks at night before bed. As that is now out of the question, I have discovered that a cup full of hot milk with a heaped teaspoon of malt extract or Rice Malt Syrup (about $6.50 from the health food shop) makes a wonderful, tasty and sweet bedtime drink...and all the sugar in it is maltose.

I still have a container of Jarrah Choc 'n Toffee in my cupboard and ingredients contain Glucose Solids (Wheat or Corn) and Sweetner (951- aspartame).  Sugar content per 100ml is 2.3g or 4.9g per serving with 200ml of water.

    Hope this helps :)

I've done this since Milo and most drinking chocolates (although I didnt' know about the Jarrah ones) are now out of the question.  I'm currently using a 1:1 mixture and, while its not as sweet as I'm used to, I'm acquiring the taste.

    Cheers,

    Dan
