    Hi David,

I was just wondering about Carob.  I buy No Added Sugar Carob from my local health food shop, the ingredients are Vege oil, milk solids, buttermilk powder, skim milk powder, emulsifier (322 - soy lecithin), flavour.  On the NIP under sugars it is 41g per 100g, this seems quite high for no added sugar but is this because of all the milk ingredients?

Hope this is still ok to enjoy, I don't have it very often, but don't mind it occasionally instead of chocolate and my kids love it, I have always put in a few buds with their morning tea.  I know it is an acquired taste for some, but I love it, I got into carob when I was a teen and exploring a more alternative/healthy life and again when I was pregnant with my children and pulled caffiene out of my diet (yep no chocolate!)

    Hopefully you have good news!

unfortunately the news is all bad on carob ... the reason carob products have no ADDED Sugar is that carob powder is about 50% sugar (25% fructose) to begin with ... sorry :-(

    Cheers

    David.

Thanks for letting me know David.  You really are a wealth of information.  Bummer on the carob.

    Cheers,
