I saw a jar of rice malt syrup at the supermarket today and wondering is this something we can use or should be avoided ?

Hi Anna, Rice Malt Syrup is fine. While the total sugar content is similar to that of honey, it has no fructose. It is a fine substitute for both honey and maple syrup and, a couple of spoons of this syrup in a mug of hot milk (with or without a spoon of Bournville cocoa powder) makes a good nightcap.

Also, it makes a great ice cold malted milk, as long as you first dissolve the syrup by adding it to a little milk and nukeing in the microwave for a few seconds (with or without the cocoa powder)....then add to icy milk and, if you are feeling particularly inventive, give it a tickle with the slender blender to add a little froth.

    Hi there,

Are you sure rice malt is OK.  I thought I read somewhere (in one of David's books) that it was a NO NO?

I used to eat it a bit when I couldn't have honey and quite like it.  I'd be happy if it was OK to eat.
