How does this diet and dextrose effect those with diabetes or those who have high sugar levels and want to reduce it.  Does Dextrose have the same effect to diabetics as sugar as it still a form of sugar.

Any advise from those who are diabetic and on the diet.

    Is it safe for diabetics

Hi Jan, I'm hypoglycaemic, and I have to go easy on the dextrose/glucose as well, because it affects my insulin levels.  I can have Xylitol/birch sugar without any problems though (it's a shame it's so expensive).

I am an insulin dependant diabetic type 1, and have just started the sugar free way of life.  Being prone to 'hypos', I now drink milk instead of having a sugar fix, but need to keep checking Blood Glucose Levels because milk is a carb. Yes, dextrose in still a sugar, but once you have become sugar-free, it can be introduced back into the diet, as David suggegts in his recipes.  I keep my carb serves to the minimun and my BGL are low, as a result.  So far, so good.  Going sugar-free has been easy because I eat very little sugar, even though the Diabetic know-it-alls say sugar in small doses is ok for a Diabetic.  For years, I could never get my head around that or eating a lot of carbs, as that always meant lots of injections.  hope this helps

I have just been diagnosed as diabetic and have come across a product at the Supermarket called PureVia.

Ingredient list:  Sweeteners 97% (Erythritol, Isomaltulose, Steviol, Glycosides), Flavours, Cellulose powder.

Carbohydrate 2.01g per serve,  Sugars 0.7g per serve, 3.1cal/serve, 13.1kj/serve

Is this oK for me to use instead of Sugarine, Equal etc. ?

Any comments would be most welcome.
