I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before  - but I thought it deserved mentioning again! I had to order this online and none of the supermarkets or health food stores around here had it in stock but apprently other Coles (just not ours) stock it in the health food section. It's made of glucose and maltose, which according to http://sweetpoison.wikidot.com/maltose, is broken down into glucose. It tastes almost exactly like honey!!! My kids are very happy to have 'honey' back on the menue for their toast and weekend pancakes! I'm pretty happy to have it back for cooking and other sweet treats. It even looks like honey!

For those how are just starting out and looking for alternatives, especially ones that will win over the less then enthusiastic converts, this is a must :)

Rice Malt Syrup - cheap at my local Asian supermarket - 500g $2.50.

Bought some rice malt syrup yesterday and very pleased - better than honey as not sickly sweet. Was very happy to find it at my local Coles in the health foods section - I had already been to a smaller Coles store which didn't have it so tried the local health food shop but they had run out and were awaiting the arrival of their next order. So looks like larger Coles stores carry it in case anyone is looking in one of the smaller stores!
