These two are good substitutes for sugar filled corn flakes and rice bubbles ... no sugar added at all and kids love 'em (especially if you sprinkle a little dextrose over them to break them in).  Only problem is that they are a little on the pricey side.

    Rice Puffs: 1.1% sugar

    Corn Puffs: 1.0% sugar

    Cheers

    David.

    Hi David

Are these available at the supermarket?  We live in Townsville NQ & can't get a few things that have been mentioned previously.  I went looking for goaties some time ago & nobody has heard of them.  Tried Coles & Woolies.  I am assuming they are in the confectionary aisle or are they in the health food section.

Abundant Earth Products - I am able to buy these at my local Coles.  Otherwise you can purchase online, here is one link I found to purchase them online http://www.glutenfreeshop.com.au/Abundant-Earth-Puffed-Rice-P991.aspx  170g for $4.15.  Shipping fee is calculated at the end.  I'm sure there are other online stores that sell these as well, this is just the first one that stood out to me.

Goaties - These are marketed as an ideal health treat for the whole family, a yummy milk shake tasting treat that's fun to eat.  I also get these from my local Coles and they are available from some health food shops.  I give them to my kids as a treat, not the whole packet 10.5g worth, just one or two which they enjoy as a sweet treat.  They are available in chocolate and strawberry.  The last packet I bought was from a health food shop and they were $1.60.

Here is a link for more info on Goaties http://interclinical.com.au/goaties/main.html

You can also order them online here http://www.interclinical.com.au/products.php?cat=hphp&page=2  just click on the picture and that adds them to your cart, just not sure on the postage costs, but they are $1.60 a packet.

    Hope this info helps.

I have a wheat allergy, so I can't use dextrin as a sweetner. I have used the puffed rice referred to, but better still is to cook up some brown rice and have it in the fridge. Just warm up the amount you want to eat, add milk, and half a banana.

I didn't used to like brown rice until my daughter told me to use the short grain one and to cook it really well, and it is actually very nice.

Hi, I tried the Abundant Earth puffed rice in the chocolate crackle recipe on this website (as per David's notes).  Sorry, in my opinion they were disgusting.  They ruined the chocolate crackles, hate to think what they'd taste like on their own.  But hey, that's just my opinion :-)
