I found a yoghurt that looked OK - is it on the OK list?

Tamar Valley Greek style yoghurt with Strawberry
    sugar / 100 g = 4.8g

    What do you all think?

    Hello Camilla
I just Googled this yoghurt and it actually contains 18gms of sugar!!!!
Here is a link to their webpage with the nutritional and ingredients lists on the right.

Five of those grams will be lactose which is ok, But it is sweetened with fruit juice, honey and sucrose which are all a no no.
    cheers

Thanks Freda!!!!  Clearly I need to take a bit more time reading labels!!!

It's definitely off the shopping list.

There is a "no added sugar" Tamar Valley yogurt, which has approx 6.1g sugar/100g, however it also has sweetner 955 added.

I'm really new to this! What about this yoghurt? How do you know how much is lactose and how much is added from other sources?

    Thanks!

    Hello Katie
I looked at the Tamar Valley webpage. Its ingredients list looks ok. I am puzzled by the high sugar content as there is no added sugar or sweeteners.
If it is very condensed, I suppose that the lactose may be very concentrated.

I use Jalna Bio Dynamic whole milk yoghurt which has only 4.1% sugar which the usual amount for lactose in milk products. As you know, lactose is fine as it breaks down into glucose which is fine. I really like this yoghurt, it's lovely and creamy.

    cheers

I have found infact that some natural yoghurts differ in sugar or rather lactose.  I have greek yoghurt and at home i've got the famer's union brand, per 100g is 7.2g sugar.  Just remember to check the ingredients and as long as it doesn't have any added sugar you should be fine.

I would think added anything would put it off the list. By plain or greek and add your own ingredients. It doesn't have to be added sweeteners which can be a problem, anything added is not going to be a helpful ingredient.
