My husband has just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. What impact does that have on this eating plan. He is doing well but can we replace sugar with things like dextrose or will this create problems. I'm trying to broaden his diet and allow a little leaway every so often

This is the wrong forum for this, there's a questions forum.  I dunno how old this question is, but if it's old, that is why.

If he's diabetic, I would suggest that he speak to a doctor to be sure, but that glucose is going to contain the sugar he needs without the fructose.  My wife is diabetic and I feel sure the jelly beans she used to self medicate contaimned glucose and not fructose.  So, I would not have thought anything changes in that regard, but I think a semi random website is not the best place to get advice when you're talking about a potentially life threatening situation.  I'd go to the doctor, explain you're stopping the ingestion of fructose and ask him/her how to handle it.

    Hello Pam
It might be worth asking David Gillespie your question on his Sweet Poison Facebook page, he usually answers pretty quickly. And he may be able to give you some answer or point you in the right direction. My doctor laughs at me when I talk about a no sugar way of eating, many doctors simply don't know about it.
    cheers

Just found this  question.  I'm having the same problem and so I bypass all sweet foods containing any sugars, dextrose, fructose etc I don't trust them. Doctors know nothing about this subject neither do dietitians well meaning as they might be.  My doc wanted to put me on all the usual tablets for type 2 and i said no thanks I will handle this myself.  I stayed away from him for 12 months and when I went back and had a range of blood tests, my blood sugar (fasting) and Hbac1 was normal, my cholesterol was good (had been up) and liver funtion was  good.  He ws most surprised.  I said I just cut out all sugar.  End of story. They still want to have their claws into you and control your life with tablets but you can do it yourself cold turkey and its not that hard. Don't look for substitutes or ways around it, just go off sugar.  I find now that if I inadvertantly have sugar I get relly tired and I have a thick head the next day.  This was a common thiing for me pre sugar free days, and I had forgotten about it, so now I know what caused it.
