First question relates to Sushi, can you still eat it while on the quit plan and secondly can anyone give me the names of some yoghurts I can eat apart from the yoplait forme and boring old plain yoghurt?

    thankyou

Tamar Valley has a special no sugar range http://www.tamarvalleydairy.com.au/pgreekmannon.html they do contain artificial sweeteners if your happy to consume them, they have great flavours (I love the strawberry one) and they come in a pack of 6 (which have different flavours too).  Adli have the same sort of yoghurt as well, although only 3 flavours, plain, berry and a passionfruit one I think.

    Hello Narelle and welcome
the problem with Sushi is the rice, it's made by adding rice vinegar and, unfortunately, sugar. Quite a lot of sugar. I used to find that when I ate Sushi, before dropping the sugar from my diet, that when I ate it, I craved more and more and then after eating it, ate chocolate and biscuits too. I didn't know, of course, that it was the sugar in the sushi rice creating the craving until I read the book.
So I don't eat it at all now, due to the sugar content of the rice.
I still eat Sashimi, of course, I love the raw fish.

I eat Jalna wholemilk bio dynamic yoghurt which I find lovely and creamy and not too sour. But any plain or natural yoghurt will do as long as there is no added sugar, honey or fruit juice. (or inulin which is another form of fructose disguised as fiber.) You can add berries to the plain yoghurt and, if you are past the recovery period from sugar addiction, you can add glucose to the yoghurt to sweeten it.
But remember, glucose, while not addictive is still as high in calories as sugar and can lead to weight gain.

For myself, I have gradually become a savoury eater and have a glucose sweetened desert rarely as a special treat, usually when we have visitors.

But that is my story, others will tell you different.

Good luck in your journey, you won't regret it.
    cheers
    Freda

We have discovered "Black Swan"  Greek Breakfast Yoghurt . .  "naturally sweet". They have converted the lactose to galactose for the benefit of the lactose-intolerant. Not sure what else, but the total "sugars" is but at about 5% is is OK. Contrary to most Greek yoghurts it is sweet and is thick and creamy. Low-fat too of course. It comes in 500g punnets only.

Margaret River Diary Company make a delicious Greek style yoghurt with no added sugar.  It's thick and very creamy.  As it is a WA brand I'm not sure you can get it in the Eastern States?????

Thank-you Freda for that note about inulin. I didn't know it was Fructose.

Also do they put sugar in sushi made with brown rice ?

    Cheers

    Hello Miriam
Oooo, I don't know whether they use sugar in brown rice sushi.........I've never come across it. Do you get it from a "health food" outlet? If they make it on the premises, you can simply ask them if they do. Maybe don't tell them you are sugar free or anything, just ask.........people are often delighted to give you an idea of ingredients.
    cheers

    Hi Freda,

Thanks for that. I don't know the name of the Sushi place, but it's at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne and it's near Hoyts Theatres and opposite Hair House Warehouse. Just in case you want to check it out.

I will definately ask them next time I am there.

Also my daughter says SushI Sushi Outlets also do a brown rice sushi, but I don't know if they put sugar in theirs. I will certainly ask next time I am there.

    Thanks Miriam
Unfortunately I won't be checking out the Sushi place as I live in Sydney, but thanks for that anyway.
    Good luck with it all.
    cheers
