Hi, just wondering if anyone else has initially put on weight before losing.  I have been sugar free

now for approx 3 weeks and my weight seems to be going up and up.  When should you start losing

and how do you know when you have finished the withdrawal stage.

    Thanks

    Hi Freda,

I am following the guidlines and have switched from lowfat milk to full cream milk, am limiting my fruit intake to one or two pieces a day - I usually have a milk mixed berry smoothie for breakfast with chia seeds.  Lunch is usually a chicken sandwich with salad, dinner meat and veges.  Nuts in between when hungry.  I thought I would not have to count calories or worry about food anymore just listen to my hunger signals and as long as I did not eat anything containing sugar, which I have been really careful not to do then the weight would take care of itself.  My diet before was low fat and high fruit - could eat anything up to 5 pieces a day.  I really did not expect to put on weight, and am wondering how long it will take before things even out.  Any help would be appreciated

What about some figures . . height, weight, waist measurement - before starting on a fructose-free life and now. And how long since you began?

Are you sneaking any no-nos with or without your awareness? Especially processed foods ;like biscuits, cakes etc. You may be a victim of "hidden" sugar in processed foods.

I suggest you keep a DETAILED diary of food intake for a couple of weeks, and calculate the amount of fructose you are ingesting.

Have you checked if there is a genetic influence?  overweight family members /

"Don't give up!" . . . .  you'll be so much better off when you are free.

Hi Maggie, I have the exact same issue.  I've put on about 3kg in the 4 weeks now I've been sugar "sober".  I had about 10kg to lose, now I have 13kg to lose.  I'm feeling some differences, ie: people eating chocolate in front of me at Easter and me not being at all phased by it, but I'm very disappointed about the weight gain, and my appetite does not seem to have reduced.  There hasn't been any sneaky sugar intakes, the only thing I can think of is that I'm now eating things that have more fat in them which I previously did not do.  I'm also not exercising particularly much based on what David says about the exercise myth - I'm not sure this is serving me particularly well.

    Anyone else?

    Hi John and Anonymous

Thanks for your imput.  John I am 170cm and now weight 68.3 kgs.  I have misplaced my tape measure and cannot measure my waist however last time I did measure my waist was 93cm - one of the reasons I wanted to try David's new way of eating.  Before I started I was 66 kgs approx.  I have not been having any biscuits except ecor organic crackers with olive oil with 1.6g sugar per 100g and certainly no sweet biscuits cakes etc. No overweight family members.   I try and eat organic but was focusing on low fat and lots of fruit.  Anonymous I have had a change in that (like you) am not continually craving sweet treats -  loved any fresh fruit and especially fresh dates and my weakness was chocolate but found that over Easter did not crave it as in the past.  I now feel much more satisfied after eating but am also disappointed with my weight gain.  Hopefully someone can give some direction when the weight loss should start happening.

Hello Maggie, I am also 170 cm and weigh 75 kgs, and am slim enough. I wonder if your body is putting weight on since you started eating naturally?

It does take time for our appetite control to kick in and certainly not in the first three weeks. When it does kick in you will find yourself eating more and more of the food your body needs and perhaps your weight will stabilise. Most of us have an unrealistic idea of what we should look like in this youth obsessed society and you may look great, ask your friends and family.

Do keep on with this no sugar life, the health benefits are great.........not just the losing of kilos.............the diseases that are plaguing this society seem to be all caused by too much sugar and polyunsaturated oils. Good luck with your journey.
    cheers

Hi Freda, thanks for your reply.  I gave my height measurement according to my licence - when I was a ww member my upper weight was 60 kgs so perhaps my height measurement is wrong.  I know that I carry too much weight around my middle and no I am not being unrealistic regarding my weight and do not want to be the weight I was in my twenties but would like to have my waist measurement in the healthly guidlines.  I embarked on this lifestyle change for that reason and am hoping that eventually this will work.  I am interested to hear from anyone who initially put on weight and then lost.  I have always eaten naturally (and as organic as possible) though my diet was very high in fruit up to 5 pieces of day and I loved sweet chilli sauce and used it as a basis for lots of stir fry.  Did not eat diet yoghurt or such like but after reading David's books realised my diet was high in fructose, and I always seemed to be "looking" for food.  Realise this could be my addiction to sugar hence the change.

    Hi

I too was a very disappointed with weight gain in first 3-4 weeks but I was feeling great more energy so I continued.

I started off at 75.2kg waist 83cm and I'm 163 height (would like to be 65kg). After 4 weeks I went upto 76.8 but waist down to 81cm! 6 weeks in I'm now 74.5 waist 79cm. Very happy about waist measurement more than my weight!

For the first 5 weeks my weight fluctuated heaps but this could also be because at my age 52 & still menstruating. I know around my cycle I can hold a couple of kgs easy.

6 weeks in still feeling good but hoping to weight will come off in good time.

    Hi Kaye,

Thanks for your  reply.  You and I are the same age so your reply gives me hope.  I  will continue on this journey as I am more interested in decreasing my waist measurement and the other health benefits that being sugar free seems to offer rather than just focusing on losing weight.   I am beginning to feel much more in control of my food cravings so that is a plus.  How did you know that you were through the withdrawal stage.

    Thanks

    Maggie
