It's Day One!
I heard David on ABC radio yesterday and got straight on the net when I got home. I spent hours reading and watching video clips and everything just seemed to make sense to me. I've been overweight most of my life and despite being reasonably active I have crept up to a massive 150kg!!! The only time I have had any success at all in losing weight has been on a low carb program, but was unable to keep it up long term. It makes sense now because although I was cutting out sugar, I didn't know about the addiction aspect so like an addict exposed to small amounts of the drug, eventually it was too hard to fight and I fell back to my old eating patterns.
I've ordered the book, but didn't want to wait till it arrived before getting started. Knowing what damage fructose was doing to me, I didn't want to go another day consuming it so I've gone COLD TURKEY! Dinner was sugar free last night, and I woke up this morning with a slight headache - telling myself that it's a good sign and part of withdrawing.
Busy de-sugaring my pantry and fridge today and off to the supermarket so I can have plenty of sugar free options on hand to help when the cravings hit.
Hi Winnie
Good luck with your quest...
I too had a headache to start with, that went for about a week and a half. But I have found that (and it could just be me) that once I set my mind to NO sugar I didn't get the massive cravings I had been expecting. That's not to say there hasn't been the occasional craving, but it usually occurs when I see something that looks like a past favourite.
De-sugaring the house has been rather hard as it is shared and I can't force others to my ways, no matter how good it is for them, but I am getting to be a super label reader.
Again good luck... I hope the withdrawal symptoms aren't too extreme and welcome to the forum there is heaps to read and learn on here.
