Just new to this site, and wanted to say a heart-felt thank you to David for opening my eyes to the dangers of fructose. Since September 2010 my husband and I have been following the Sweet Poison guidelines and I'm so proud to say that I've lost 6kgs and have gone from size 18 to 14. My husband took himself off sugar 2 years before anyway, so was fully supportive. I understand my weight will plateau out at some stage, so I'm not pinning my hopes on a particular weight goal. Instead, I'm just thrilled to know that I'm not gaining weight, which was all I was doing steadily for the last 3 years as my apetite got further and further out of control. I also feel great relief that I'm taking action to reduce my chances of developing type 2 diabetes and cancer, which features in my immediate family.
HINT: When people ask why I decline a chocolate or a muffin etc, I just say "thanks, but sugar doesn't like me" and I find that people just don't push you any further (perhaps they think I have diabetes or a similar medical condition?). I found if I declined stating "because I'm watching my weight" people frequently felt compelled to try and shove a treat down your throat.
Anyway, best wishes to those still working their way through the fructose minefield, and I sincerely wish you the same success as I've had, for which I am very grateful. It's so nice to not wake up and immediately start thinking about what you will eat throughout the day - it's such a release.
