Hi, only discovered this site today through an interview with David on ABC radio. So have joined up and some things I already new but so much I didn't.

Any way, 56, male, just holding my own weight wise but could do with several kilos less. Main problem is high blood pressure. Have had for many years and on tablets last 4-5 years.

Watch my salt intake with foods fairly closely, but in doing so finding that "lowfat" usually means high sugar and salt.

Now my next task is to start looking at low salt low sugar foods. I usually go for low salt salt products but maybe if I start looking at low sugar the salt may not be such a problem.

Any one here been down the path of the salt/sugar conundrum. Would be interested to hear.

    Cheers

    Hello Craig,
Welcome.  As you say, low fat, usually means high sugar and salt to get the taste back to normal.  You are better off avoiding the low fat products. Be careful, sometimes in things like Yogurt (if you eat it), they will list inulin as a fibre, when it actually has the same effect as fructose.  I stick to the full cream milk (raw if possible) butter and coconut oils, do a lot of cooking with coconut oil.  There is also a free forum with lots of info/help here http://sweetpoison.myfreeforum.org/index.php  Between the two sites you should be able to gleen lots of info.  This howmuchsugar site is wonderful for all the data and recipes the members have access to.  David also has blogs here http://www.raisin-hell.com/  , don't forget to read the archive stuff.
