hi all, have been on a low joule diet since end January and have sweated off 11 kgs, but was going well unless i had so much as a bite of anything sweet, when almost uncontrollable craving set in.  A friend told me about this site and i joined last night; after which i threw out my expensive muesli to the chooks, followed by the fruity yoghurt this morning, sweet chilli sauce to the bin. i am excited and pleased; had porridge with a little salt and cream for breakfast, and dont feel hungry, wow

    Hi Tania

I felt the same when I saw your intro; I am going cold turkey; and feel ok apart from hunger when i went to bed;that will pass, I am so accustomed to eating fruit after dinner. How are you going today?

Hi Jill & Tania, welcome. I agree with Freda, read the book(s). Glad someone out there is spreading the word, I tell anyone that will listen, Sometimes I get tired of the sound of my own voice....I can get a bit repetitive!  hehe

Jill, I was the same & was really hungry, and after I my initial loss of 6.6 in 3 months, started gaining. So I listened to the lovely helpful people on this forum & the Sweet Poison forum, and ate more protein, and lowered my carbs. (For me that's bread & white pasta).  Then lowered my portion sizes. With a bit of tweaking here & there, I lost the almost 4 kilos I put back on, but have gone on to be almost 12 kilos down. (200 grams to go, as of Friday, Yay!)  So, do what you have to to get through the withdrawals, up your protein a bit, & see what happens.

I have lo-cal Aeroplane jelly with cream after my dinner, not every night, but most nights, I guess, I make up 2 jellies, different colours, and make 6 portions in all, I just put in drinking glasses. Yummm. I was eating nuts, mostly almonds, but now with my teeth problems, have had to ditch the nuts for now.  (sad) Nuts are what you snack on later. If you feel hungry at bedtime, make a hot milky drink, (no caffeine) , Bron got me onto cocoa, 1 teaspoon, plus 1 sachet of Stevia (I'm using up the Natvia) mix to a paste with a teaspoon of milk, heat the rest of the cup of milk or milk/water, then pour over & stir like mad, it's nice with a (smallish) piece of hard cheese. Or have chamomile tea, with the cheese. I can't sleep some nights, if I'm hungry. My sleep is all over the place at the mo', as I've been watching the Tennis!  (eye rolls, hehe)  Great stuff, I love it.

My tips, keep busy, don't obsess about it all, and go walking, in Nature, if you can, ie trees, grass birds, flowers, all those things and more, it's a form of meditation. If you can or want to, meditate as well. And laugh as much as possible. Determine to be happy, and do positive things towards that, watch funny DVD's, your fave comedy TV. (I've just discovered Big Bang Theory! Very funny!!) .

Good luck to both of you, I love reading about  everyone's journey, it inspires me to keep going, so keep on posting!

    hello,
well i am enjoying my morning porridge; the only thing is I am craving the yoghurt i had with my muesli, and my tummy is rumbling and groaning away..luckily i live 33 kms from a supermarket, where the low-fat icecream lives, and the flavoured yoghurt. I have alwyas been sugar-conscious but thought fructose was good- it's made from fruit, right???- so have been surprised at my addiction. I have no thoughts of quitting though; In the past i have given up alcohol-13 years ago, tobacco, 10 years. Was reflecting yesterday on how i ate choc-coated almonds to help me over those withdrawals; think i have been a sugar addict for many years; I recall sneaking chocolate slice from the pantry as a child, and have always struggled to keep my weight down, so am very motivated to keep sugar out of my life. I'm ot switching to substitutes at this stage, cos i still have 7 kg to lose, so the temptation to bake will have to wait for now.
I greatly appreciate all the support

after 8 days on the sugar-free plan I have painlessly lost over 1.4 kg. i think a lot of it is fluid, but that's ok.. i am enjoying my food; fullcream milk again; cheese in moderation, a little cream on my porridge, i did have one major craving moment yesterday at a big shopping centre, choc-coated strawberries...I was with the friend who recommended this site, also tempted but we were easily able to resist and I was immediately glad i hadn't succumbed to temptation. had a toasted sandwich with a cup of coffee instead. i am finding i have more stamina when doing physical work, and definitely no insatiable cravings, I am very pleased

Jill, further to my initial posting on this thread, I have found an article on a site I get a newsletter from. Now this guy is selling his own books & stuff, but the article seems ok & is backed up with references. Link here:-

    http://www.alsearsmd.com/the-calorie-burn-myth/

It's about when you hit a plateau, to up the proteins first before cutting back on the carbs.

    Verrrry interesting....Hmmmmm

You seem to be going ok, Jill. I have to report that my appetite has well & truly kicked in & I only eat now when my tummy starts to rumble. If this is 6 hours after I last ate, then so be it. I know some people feel one must eat every 3 hours, this way is working for me. I have lost another 3 kilos since I was at the dentist, that was 2 weeks ago. For the first time in my life, I don't feel like eating all the time. So I'm a very happy Sylvia at the moment, & intend to keep it that way.

Keep it up......I'm rooting for you!!

    Blessings

    hi all

i agree with your comment, Sylvia, most diets seem to stress that you must eat every 3 hours, but, like you, i only eat when the tum rumbles, and it is working for me,I have never before this felt so satisfied by what i eat, but the best thing is that the cravings i have always had...GONE. Even whilst i was eating my main course I would be thinking about the dessert.
I am recommending the site to friends , strange how attached people are to the sugar in their lives though, I guess I was too, without realizing it; a sprinkle here and there, and all the hidden added fructose.. I am totally convinced that this is the way of eating for me. Well, the tummy is growling so bye for now
