But cutting out fructose/sugar seems like just skimming the surface of what's going on with our food today. Palm oil - another poison - is in so many foods, too, and it's a real issue as its 100% trans fat and its production is causing the near-extinction of the orangutan (among other things). Soy milk is 50% oil - mostly palm oil because it's so cheap......
I often shop in my local organic grocers where you would think they would be conscious of 'good, healthy food' but so much in there has fructose/sugar, apple/pear concentrate, palm oil, trans fats, overseas product - has it been irradiated, Chernobyled?......
I find myself more and more returning to an old-fashioned way of eating - meat, chicken, eggs (free-range because I don't like to think of the way 'conventional' farming treats animals) - fish; fruit and vegies; simple flours, rice and pasta; milk, cheese and yogurt..... but I still crave something sweet so have been using some of the simple recipes on the website.
Overall, though, it's quite a big commitment for something that should be so simple. When you take everything into consideration - organic or not? Free-range or not? Australian-made or not? Local or overseas? Sugar, fat, processed, take-away...... Does it have to be all or nothing? Is there a happy medium? I don't think so. As hard as it is I think one just has to make the commitment to only eat what's good for us and stick to it, no matter how hard - but that's so much easier said than done!
And another thing; what about sodium laurel sulphate? There's another poison that is in almost everything we put on our bodies; wash our clothes, dishes, hands in; clean our houses with....
I think we're all being slowly poisoned, but do we have the strength to really overcome it all? And where do we get the knowledge we need to make all the right decisions?
I think it is its own reward, though, and each day that I am sugar-free I feel better, stronger, more energized and so much healthier.
Hi, Lizzie, Your overall observations are compelling, and I agree with most of them. It is indeed a minefield. The more you research, the more you learn, the more complicated it gets. With regard to Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, I found this from the Cancer Council, (Australia), link here:-

I think what it does, is say not to trust so called info from sites that are trying to sell you their products, where their research isn't backed up by genuine research.
When you're researching anything, be prepared to follow up on the research presented by the site, too. A lot of us, including myself (!) just take things on face value, choosing to believe that good always triumphs over evil, so to speak!! But when you follow the research, you can make up your own mind, and make informed choices.
Also, one's financial situation plays a large part in how they live their lives, eat, clean themselves, etc etc. When I was still employed, I always bought eggs from walk about chickens, but I can no longer afford that luxury, not matter how it clashes with what I believe. While I'm trying to shed my weight, (14 kilos down, 27 to go!) eggs play a large part in my diet, as an excellent source of protein & other things too numerous for me to remember (!). Not happy about it, but don't have much choice.
Having Arthritis, my car is very useful to me, but it costs money to run, not that I use it that much these days, doesn't look like I'll be getting a new one any time soon, unless I win one in the many competitions I enter!! LOL It all adds up.
Thanks for the chance to think more deeply about these things, Lizzie.
Good luck with it all
