I read David's books and felt that this was what I needed to do to lose weight once and for all. I have struggled since having children to lose the excess weight I have put on (whilst having a good time over the past 10 years!!!).
On August 1 I gave up sugar - cold turkey. I also gave up alcohol for August to kick-start my weight loss.
My husband, being very supportive, and the kids (not so sure) have also given up sugar too.

It is now Day 20. I have lost 2 kg and feel particularly low and "ripped off". I thought that I would lose the 6 KG that my husband has lost.

    I am eating no sugar.

Please help as to why my weight loss is so SLOW compared to many others who have gone sugar-free.
    Thanks
    Gemma

    Welcome Gemma
And well done keeping sugar free for twenty one days.
You have done well, losing two kilos, that's one kilo per ten days, which is about what I lost.

Men tend to lose weight more quickly and easily than women. Hormonal thing I think.
My husband lost weight and didn't either wish to or really need to.............he became sugar free with me simply to get his sugar and cholesterol readings down. These readings have dropped quite drastically and he was horrified to find he had lost just over six kilos!

So, please don't give up hope.............you will get lots of support on this forum and on the Sweet Poison free forum.
    cheers

Glad to hear you've been fructose free for 21 days, and I am looking forward to following you on your journey. Please don't be sad that you've not lost as much as DH. Just knowing that you are doing the right thing by him and your children should be enough to keep you going. Be strong, it gets better, I promise. When your true appetite control kicks in, you will feel so much better.
Don't obsess about it all, just remember this is not a diet, it is a way of life, so take photos of the old you and write down how you felt before, then in 18 weeks time, bring them out & look at them & take new ones, of the new you, and think how you feel then and compare. You will feel so much better, and if you get the children interested in the preparation of meals, they will be proud of you too. There are other Mums on both forums that will help you with what to do regarding involving the children.
I wish you a great journey, full of exiting moments, as you feel your clothes getting looser. If you're like me & have a tummy, please make a pact with yourself to do regular exercise, otherwise it won't go down. That's the mistake I made, I have a problem getting out there for walks, ok when I get out there, I am in a big rut, and I'm tryiong hard to get out. Don't be me!!

    Good Luck,

    Silver Angel

Gemma, stick to it. My early days were minor weight loss but then it all just happened and the weight fell off. I went sugar free cold turkey not to lose weight but to reduce my Blood Sugar Levels. I started June 1st and now my Blood Sugars are 5.4 down from 7.2 (great ) and I have dropped 16 kilograms. One thing that I did to start the ball rolling was to start with 3 days of PROTEIN only, nothing else, just meat and chicken , 6 times a day. What this did was to allow my stored up carbos to get used. I was a little bit giddy a few times but it did get me focussed, committed and I felt good. DRINK 3 LITRES of water everyday ........ very important.

I am happy to share more, if you would like. Just ask.

Hi, My Names Nikki, not Martin - thats my husband.  I have been totally sugar free now for 6 days and I was wondering when it all kicked in too.  I have actually put on a kilo but I relate that to full fat foods and my body not reacting yet as my withdrawal system is still in place.  The good thing is that I don't feel hungry all the time now.  I am worried thou, as I only have 10 kilos to lose and I don't know if I'm heavy enough to make an impact.  I keep telling myself its for health benefits and the weight loss is a bonus!

I have been FF for nearly 11 months now and have not lost an ounce!!  I probably need to lose 4-5kg but am more concerned about the health benefits and that fact that by being FF I feel so much healthier and if and when I manage to loose the few extra kilos that will be a bonus!  Good luck with it all.  Oh and by the way I make David's no bake cheescake every so often and it is absolutely delicious!

Nikki, I've been tweaking things as my appetite control isn't reliable (when the hungry hormones kick in I can keep eating and eating!).  I've tried to eat as much protein as possible.  I only eat healthy carbohydrates (wholemeal) and not too many.  I eat lots of non-starchy vegetables (at least with lunch and dinner).  I don't eat any butter (as I will eat it all).  And rarely any dextrose treats or sweeteners or I go just as overboard as I used to on sugar.  And now it's doing the trick.

Don't think I was ever addicted to sugar, though I ate so much of the stuff!  I'm just doing it for the health benefits but I could lose up to 5kg as well.  I'm not weighing myself so not sure if I've lost any with these new rules, but I know I have as my clothes are looser.

Plus, it may help to concentrate on the other health benefits of no sugar :) Weight gain isn't the only negative of eating it.

Thanks Murray. As you can see I don't get on to the forum very often but it was comforting to read your words as the most successful "diet" that I've been on lately was the protein only. I'll take you up on your suggestion. Thanks again. Gemma

I agree. I don't want to be super-slim or anything like that. Sure the weight loss would be fabulous but it's the health reasons more than anything and the ability to do things without feeling too tired or unable to keep up. Hope all is going well for you. Thanks for your post. Gemma
