    Hi,

I joined your site yesterday. I believe is it what I call a common sense site with some very interesting research, and I think is the beginning of a new, vital awareness on the dangers of fructose. The forum is also an effective method of sharing this knowledge. I watched the One plus One program where David was interviewed, along with a Professor of nutrition, concerning the fructose subject, and thought the outcome was that the Professor agreed with David even though it appeared to the contrary.Nevertheless David's research will now stimulate more intensive research on this matter.

My question relates to whey protein sweetened by fructooligosaccharide. I have been using this to assist in my diet thinking it would not raise my blood sugar levels (which it has does not) and help me lose weight. However on researching your site and a number of others, I have found that this ingredient is not digestible along with a mild diarrhea side effect which I have experienced. It is 30 days since I began using it, combined with a low/moderate exercise program. There has not been a gain in weight, but not a loss also.

My decision now is to find a whey protein which does not use fructooligosaccharide as a sweetener and does not have soy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for an informative site.

    Hello David and welcome.
Really, you don't need a whey protein at all, just don't eat anything with sugar in it and limit your carbs and you will lose weight for sure.
    cheers

Do you specifically need the whey protein? Are you trying to bulk up or loose weight?  Instead why not limit your carbs and increase your protein.  I am doing low carb and it's working really well for me.

    Thanks for the reply,

I try to stay away from animal protein, and have almost reached a point where I am vegan. The whey protein, I think, is a good replacement for that sort of protein. The American firm where I purchased the whey has two types of products, one with the fructooligasacchride as a sweetener and the other using lo han. I am yet to receive a reply from them regarding this query. The website has done research on fructose and believes as David says ie risky. I am yet to understand why the website has such conflicting views and continues to sell whey protein with fructose. I have found a reference to Lo Han on David's (here) website saying lo han does not have fructose. For those who would like to peruse the website I am referring to, it is called mercola.com

My answer to the query as to whether I am "bulking up". I guess I am without really being concerned and without really setting out to do this. If my weight is made up of light muscle then I will have lost unwanted kilos. I am also a firm believer in exercise whether it be incidental or a regular program. Incidental is preferable. On a personal level, I feel better after exercise.

    Regards, David M

There are whey protein I believe people have found that has artifical sweeteners in it, you should be able to get them at any decent health food shop or chemist.  Might pay to look around.  Just doing a simple google search I came up with this http://professionalwhey.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=108.  There doesn't appear to be any types of sugar in there at all.  Being vegan, the protein powder would help fill you up so that is a good idea.  On the free forum site there are a few people who use protein powders and a couple of the recommendations are Isowhey powder and Synd-X Protein Powder.

    Hi Janelle,

Thank you for the reply. You are "right on the money" in recommending Syndrome X protein powder. It so happens I can now buy this Australian product from Sandra Cabot, the well respected Dr. and not have to resort to USA! I checked the publisised ingredients ie sweetened with stevia, and is mainly whey concentrate and not isolate which is not recommended by some authorities as it is claimed isolate can become rancid quite rapidly.

I note your comment reference the discussions about whey on the free forum. I have not found these references after a quick search. Could you please point me in the right direction.

                Thanks again and regards,

                David M

Hey, David. I thought you might like reading this site, link here:-

    http://doingspeed.com/fat-loss/how-the-hell-do-i-break-this-weight-loss-plateau/

It's about 2 guys who wrote a book called S.P.E.E.D. They are into body building but are into low fructose and good eating, and whey products etc......I like their humour, and the fact that they pour scorn, like David, on those people & company's who are closed minded and only interested in money, not health.

Scroll down page and find links to other articles and about them.

    Happy researching....

    Merry Christmas

Nothing wrong with nuts, perhaps a little more fat than whey protein. Comes down to a personal choice.
