Hi everyone, Tony here, let me introduce myself. When i was young, pre teens I was very thin, and not that interested in food etc but as I got older my appetite grew. I don't know if it was because of puberty or my younger brother competing for food. He had a massive growth spurt and is much taller than me. Anyway my point is I only started fattening up since I was about 13 years old, for what ever reason. I was a smoker until 3 years ago I had fast atrial arrhythmia in my heart (irregular heart beat). Scary, I thought I was dying. Stupidly I still smoked a few days later until my heart did it gain not long after a cigarette, then the penny dropped. Now I am 41, about 130 Kg and have numerous health complaints, from gout, swollen ankles to heart palpitations. Why am I still finding it hard to loose weight, I gave up about 90% of my soft drink addiction? About 2 years ago I read on the net about the dangers of fructose and things started making a bit more sense, but still didn't really do anything about it. I recently saw David on the ABC news channel I think interviewed and then I made up my mind to look up his website and finally change my life, enough is enough. It has been 2 days and I have gone cold turkey and so far its not that bad for me yet but wait until a week or more I guess? I have purchased both of David's books but still waiting for delivery, can't wait.
I hope I stick to this and finally achieve the goal of loosing weight but most importantly be healthier, have more energy to live my life sugar free. What makes it harder is my partner is addicted to sweets but does not gain weight, though she is a smoker and not that healthy and have asked her to stop offering me sweet poison, she doesn't really take this seriously but she probably thinks it's just another fad. I really can't believe how many people just don't get that this is big news about fructose, even doctors and other health professionals.
Anyone else let me know of their success, pitfalls and any tips to help me achieve my goal? Cheers!

Hi Tony and good on you for starting this wonderful journey!  You will definitely benefit from it if you stick with it.  Don't worry about what your partner may think, stick to your guns and keep saying no to any sweet stuff.  It's been a total of  14 months for me now and I've never felt better!  I'm sleeping better and have so much more energy.  After I had my son I was 85kgs.  I did go down to 78 from exercising, calorie counting and a very strict low fat diet.  Of course it didn't really work and before I knew it I was back up to 83kgs again!  I'm now a 73.7 and still loosing.  My goal is to reach a healthy BMI and I've only got 2.5kgs to go!  So many people have noticed so many changes, and everyone mentions how much I've lost and how better I look.  My husband was a bit skeptical at first.  But he soon changed him mind when he started seeing the changes and how determinded I was.  He is now behind me 100%.  Of course I've had bad weeks where I haven't lost anything, and even weeks I've put some weight on!  I've since lowered my carb intake which proves to be working very well for me at the moment and I'm loving it too.  So if you happen to come across a few hiccups there is plenty of people to help.  Good luck and don't worry, stick with it, you will be better off.

Janelle is right, Tony. Just keep on reiterating to your partner, no thanks, it's poison, or some such words. I've been on this now for 16 months, and lost 19 kilos, I started at 111.4 kilos.
My partner is not on this with me. He has times when he will run with it for a few weeks, then give in & eat sweet things. He hasn't read the book, or heard David talk.
I think you've made up your mind, and that's the hardest step. Once you've done that, just keep on saying to yourself, I want to be thin. I am getting thinner!!  lol...it works. You also have to practice self-love, if you can. Google it, and you will find some affirmations to read out loud to yourself every day, they really work, but you have to do them daily or more.
These combined things will help keep you on track.
Any questions you may have, just ask, whether here or over on the Sweet Poison forum, someone will have the answer, lots of help here.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. Here is my gift to you.

If you're like me, now that bananas are cheap again, I find
I cannot eat them quick enough and they ripen so quick.
Try these and you wont have to throw them out.

Here's a recipe that I made from a few other muffin
recipes and found this combination worked the best,
of course it worked well in my oven anyway.

    Banana muffins

    Preheat oven to 180c (Fanforced)
Makes 12-24 (Depending on cup size)
Cooking time 10-20 minutes (depending on oven)

    Dry mix:
    3 cups self raising flour
    1/2 cup glucose (powdered)
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    Wet mix:
    90 grams butter (melted)
    1 egg lightly beaten
1+1/4 cup milk (might need a bit more)
    3 drops of vinilla essence
    2 bananas (peeled and crushed)

    Method:
Sift self raising flour into large bowl
add in glucose and ground cinnamon then mix together.
Now make a well in middle of dry mix to allow for wet mix.

    I used two large bananas.
I find that crushing the bananas with a fork does a great job,
I mean you want it to be a little chunky so muffins have that
melt in your mouth banana moment. Remember, the bigger the
banana the more the banana moistness. Experiment.

Melt butter and add to mix with banana, egg, milk and vanilla
    essence. (Mix lightly together)

Now pour wet mix into dry well and mix.

TIP: dont over stir, once flour is mixed in, stop.

The consistency should be thick and lumpy but be able to slowly
roll off a spoon. You may need to add a little more milk if it
is too thick, but don't make it too thin.

Now place into muffin cups/tray and cook until golden brown on top.

TIP: Dont over fill the cups, 1/2 - 2/3 full. Too much might not
cook so well or take longer.

This was baked in a fanforced oven and they took 10-15 minutes so
results may vary from oven to oven so trial and see.
What I do is once golden brown on top

Allow to cool and lightly dust with more glucose for extra sweet.
You can also make an icing, or add cream, whatever you prefer on top,
personally I prefer them on their own, they are so light and fluffy,
and you get that banana surprise that melts in your mouth. Mmmmmmm!

Please let me know if you have any queries of if you liked them?
    Enjoy!

Hello Tony, I hope you're still persisting with your 'quit sugar plan'. Was wondering if you'd received your books yet and if so have you begun reading. Would be interested to hear how you're going.

Hi all, I am still sugar free though I had a coffee today with 1 sachet of splenda, I wasnt sure, I thought it was sugar free but I think its not, bugger. Look I have had the occasional sausage with sauce in it but for the most part I eat a no sugar diet which I am proud of myself for. My missus thinks Im over doing it but she doesnt understand. She eats sweet things everyday and then some, oh well she smokes also, what can I do, dont wanna preach. Hey its been well over a month now and I tell you I dont get the up and down moods anymore, it's amazing. My hunger is sorting it self out slowly which is exciting me the most but then again, Im back at work now so I will see if the early starts reak havoc on my appetite, usually do. I have the books now, and signed by David which is awsome. Have started reading and want to read more but I am still fuelled up by my passion for no sugar so it is all good. Sometimes it is really hard to resist, but I can recognise that it is the habbit that drives me to put chocolate or that cookie in my mouth so I quickly squash that Idea.

Here's to a poison free life.

    Tony

I too like sausages in bread with sauce on them, there is a recipe in the birthday menu on David's website. It tastes a bit like tomato soup but it will help keep sugar off the sausage in bread.

    Ingredients – Tomato Sauce
125 ml passata (sieved tomatoes, available from the supermarket)
    1 tablespoon dextrose
    pinch of salt
    Method – Tomato Sauce
    1. Place passata in a saucepan over a medium heat and allow it to boil.
    2. Stir in the dextrose and add salt to taste.
    3. When the mixture tastes right and is about the consistency you like (it will thicken when cooled), remove from heat, cool, bottle, and store in refrigerator.

    Good luck
    Richard

Well done Tony for being so strong. You didn't say if you lost any weight yet?  I love bananas, but I know they are a high fructose thing, so I only eat 3 a week, one every other day. I just wrap them up in their plastic bag & keep in the door of the fridge.

If you're not losing, it may be because you're having too many treats!!
Stuff made with Dextrose are treats, and treats are an occasional thing. Freeze your baked muffins in individuasl serves, so you don't eat too many in one go. Plus too much dextrose can cause diarrhoea. Maybe your DW (dear Wifey) needs to give up smoking first, then give up sugar!  Hard to do both. I guess only she knows if she needs to lose weight, I'm sure she already knows she is poisoning herself, as you will have told her, yes?  Keep on letting her know how well you feel, and all the positive things about giving up fructose......this is called positive thinking and will only serve to reinforce your own self-talk, and that's the way to break any addiction. Also, leave the books where she can see them & she may become intrigued by it all & read them herself. It really is best if our partners can read the books too.

I wish you the best of luck on your low fructose journey. Keep us informed, either here or over on the Sweet Poison forum, where there are other lovely people who's only wish is to keep you motivated and positive, with encouragement and info.

    Kind regards
