    Hi All,

My name is Lauren - and I have been reading a lot over the last few days and feel that all the info here just makes sense to me. I am rather interested in 3 things, and am hoping to find some answers: 1) Breast feeding - how intake of sugar can impact on the quality of milk (if any impact) and therefore what my son also receives.

    2) I have an underactive thyroid and am interested if cutting out sugar may have a positive impact on this.

    3) weight loss - I have always been a little overweight (probably 10kg) and would love to lose this. I have also been heavily into exercise and am quite fit, but this doesn't ever seem to help.

Looking forward to exploring more of this website and getting David's book to read soon! Currently mostly sugar free for the past 4 days, however, i haven't had any major withdrawals yet... should i be??

    Thanks everyone.

    Lauren :)

    Hi Lauren, and welcome.

1 - your son, like all humans, does not know how to process fructose.  As such, he doesn't need it, although you may want to consume a good amount of dextrose, if you are concerned that the sugar he CAN use may be needed in your milk.  You can put it in coffee, or cook sweets with it.  Of course, there's also sugar in cows milk ( but not fructose ), so just drinking milk will probably give you the sugars your baby is likely to need.

    2 - I have no clue, but I'd say it's worth a shot, it can't hurt

3 - The book talks about how exercise is good for your body, however, because it makes you hungry, it won't help with weight loss unless you also starve yourself.  Personally, I do no exercise ( although I am trying to change that ) and I went from 102 to 87 kg in two months, I lost 10 kg the first month and then it slowed down ( and I don't think I should lose any more ).  The thing is, I didn't 'diet', I just cut out sugar and ate until my body told me I was full.  I think I lost a lot because I used to eat a LOT of sugar, so it was a big change for me.  I think a lot of people lose it more slowly than I did, but, I do expect if you read the books and follow the advice, that you will lose weight.

    Hi Lauren,

    1) is treated in some detail in Sweet Poison,  Chapter 2
    2) No idea - ask your doctor; or David at http://sweetpoison.com.au/ and take the "Get in Touch" link.
    3) It is becoming common knowledge that exercise does not help you to reduce weight. The whole calories-in/calories-out thing is just plain wrong. Exercise increases your appetite (remember "going for a walk to work up an appetite for dinner"?) You can workout for an hour and lose 800 calories. Then you can put it all back in 2 minutes with a Mars Bar! There are many good reasons to exercise but losing weight is not one of them.
    4) If you don't have any withdrawal symptoms just count yourself lucky :-)  Don't  beat up on yourself for not getting it right!

BTW if you are so inclined you can buy all of David's books as e-books from penguin.
