    Hi guys,

I remember seeing someone mentioning Rice malt syrup - organic in some cooking so I bought some - Pure Harvest Organic from Coles and tasted a bit on toast because the suspense was killing me and it was very nice and pleasant indeed.  It states that rice is the only ingredient so is this something we can eat because it has no sugar or am I missing something?

that is correct, it's made from rice, it's a certain process it goes through which products the syrup.  I do believe David has mentioned it's fine.

    Yes its great.
My daughter uses it on her porridge and I use it as a substitute for honey or golden syrup in recipes.

Yes it's fine. There are a number of posts on this subject. It contains 47%  sugar, but it is mostly  maltose which is metabolised as glucose.  It has a low viscosity so you might want to store it in the fridge. It doesn't have as much flavour or sweetness as runny-honey. But as a fructose-free substitute it's about as good as you can get.  http://www.pureharvest.com.au/product/organic-rice-syrup  I can find Rice malt Syrup only Coles.

Liquid glucose is another but being very viscous and clear, is not very attractive to eat. You can buy it in the supermarkets.

You might also like to try malt extract. Unfortunately it only comes in 500g tins and.of course, has a malty flavour.

    Enjoy!

I use the rice malt syrup and have always loved pure malt but stopped using it as assumed this was off limits. does this mean I can treat myself to malt again, (its a bit dear but my grandson and I used to eat it on a spoon and love it) its mentioned in a comment that malt is okay, please reassure me this is so, so I can go next week and indulge again, lol, cheers

I used to buy Sanders malt extract until I found it had 6% sugar in it.
I think you could indulge a little, but very sparingly. Maybe your attraction to it is due to the sugar content.............manufacturers are very slippery and gain fans by adding sugar to things to addict us to their products.
I have found that my craving for sweet foods has diminished greatly in 18 months, so I am a more savoury eater now.
    cheers
