mouthwash isn't to be used everyday (so my dentist says), only every week (reason being is because it not only kills the bad bacteria in your mouth but also the good) and it's only about 20mls.  Christian you don't swallow your mouthwash :P

well I would like to know stuff like that as I have sjorgrens autoimmune and have to use a mouth paste and toothpaste specially for relieving dry mouth and this has nasty artificial sweeteners in it , that are banned in some countries. many artificial sweeteners are poisonous and very bad for your overall health. I am going to try and write to the manufacturers and ask them to use stevia or dextrose or something. lots of medicinal products use nasty chemical sweeteners and would love to see a big swing against this. cheers Maree

Mouthwashes are a con. They are totally unnecessary. If you have a bad taste in your mouth find out what is causing it. And go and clean your teeth.  Ask your dentist. If he has a mouthwash promotion display in his premises, ask him why.

I agree with John re: mouth wash in general, but I would accept that some people may have medical reasons to use them.  As David said in 'Sweet Poison', there is no actual evidence of artificial sweeteners being poisonous, that's mostly an urban myth.  I have to wonder if it's possible to make your own, I think that's the general answer to most things, in terms of avoiding sugar and/or artificial sweeteners.
