I cannot live without my toast and marmalade first thing in the morning.  I don't care how bitter it is. Does anyone know of a sugar free marmalade?

All jam contains basically fruit, sugar and  water. As shown on P120 of Sweet Poison Quit Plan normal jams contain about 65% sugars and I guess they would be slightly more than 50% fructose since the fruit part contains only about 5%.  So if you have a teaspoonful [ 5g ] of marmalade on your toast you will be getting less than 2g of fructose. You are allowed 10g a day so as long as you don't overdo it in other areas you can, as I do, enjoy your little bit of marmalade (or jam) with impunity.

David's list mentions low-sugar jams at 30-40% but you may need to watch for nasty artificial sweeteners.

    Hello Beryl and welcome.
If you look at the recipe section of this website, you will see a recipe for jam with pikelets. I'm sure you can adapt this recipe to make small amounts of marmalade. You can't make too big a quantity at a time as the dextrose crystallizes after a few days.  But I'm sure this will ease your craving for sugary marmalade.

Be careful of this "10 grams of fructose a day allowance thing" .............we get some fructose out of a lot of the vegetables and nuts we eat and if we have the two pieces of fruit allowed, this can come to 10 grams, easily. We are actually advised to keep our consumption below 10 grams of SUGAR a day.

    Good luck with the recipe

let us know how you go............you may find even this desire for the marmalade diminishing after a while of its own accord.
    cheers
    Freda

Thank you so much for your answers. I do tend to eat nuts a couple of times a day, but apart from that am very careful. If I do have marmalade it is the St Dalfour brand with 2% sugar per teaspoon. It is just a lifelong habit really, I will also chech the recipe.

    Many thanks
