A friend of my "Mrs" has brought to our attention that there has been research done on Dextrose being a contributing factor to bad behaviour in children. "The friend" has quoted the "Food Intolerance Network website and one of there books titled 'Fed up'.  Has anyone read it and does it demonise dextrose?  If it does poo poo dextrose what is their scientific back-up?

you know what there is always going to be conflicting stories, articles and research.  Some will be backed by evidence however most will be controlled type studies so not really gathering all the correct evidence.  I have two small kids and they are mostly sugar free and have been since I started my journey (2 years now).  They will still get some sort of sugar but their fructose intake is very low.  I do notice now though when they do eat sugar, their behaviour does change and they get more hypo compared to when they did eat sugar.  On the other hand, when they eat dextrose they do get a little hypo but it's nowhere near as bad as when they eat sugar.  I do however think that any large amounts of any type of sweetener is not good, everything in moderation and like everything else you can't go overboard.

Dextrose is just another name for glucose: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose
