Hi all
I am trying to remember if sunflower seeds are ok to use in baking as far as sugar content goes? Also what about pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds? I have printed some recipes for some home made museli bars as my husband keeps buying the sugar laden variety and I'd like them to not be in the cupboard and available to my kids.
Hello Jane
Have you read David's book 'Big fat lies'?
He advises people not to use seed oils except for flax (linseed) oil and I assume this applies to the actual seeds too. Apparently they contain too much omega 6 which is very damaging to our arteries.
There isn't a problem as to sugar in these seeds, but personally, I wouldn't use them.
You can get ground flax seed in health food shops, it's best not to use it whole as it doesn't digest in our bodies.
cheers
